Who We Are

Sankofa Empowering Women in Ghana (SEWING) is a women’s entrepreneurship and skills training fellowship program to combat child labor and female exploitation in Ghana. It focuses on promoting sustainable educational and economic opportunities in the clothing sector to young Ghanaian women to end a cycle of poverty and exploitative labor practices and create a future of economic empowerment for these young women. Reaching thousands of people worldwide, SEWING has been featured at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates and is built on an international network of partners, sponsors, and supporters from five different continents.

What Volunteers Do

Volunteers can support one of the only international educational initiatives to combat the child labor and female exploitation in the Kayayei labor cycle in Ghana. Volunteers can work with our passionate youth leaders to promote advocacy via social media, graphic design, web design, and more on this major issue that is ignored in mainstream media. They can also research fundraising and outreach opportunities or create appropriate campaigns of their own in their local community to support our educational fellowship program for Ghanaian girls.
