Who We Are

The mission of Montgomery County Recreation is to provide high quality, diverse, and accessible programs, services and facilities that enhance the quality of life for all ages, cultures and abilities. We provide high quality and affordable summer programs to county youth and provide opportunities for 13-16 year olds to earn SSL hours by assisting with camp activities. The mission of the Junior Counselor Program is to provide leadership opportunities through recreation programs and to provide assistance to our summer programs. We strive to increase volunteer’s confidence, communication and leadership skills.

What Volunteers Do

Junior Counselors (volunteers) will support all the onsite and offsite activities offered by our summer program. Junior Counselors ( volunteers) will work directly with children and helping them to enjoy and feel successful in program activities. • Assist with preparations for the day and help clean up at the end of the day. • Participate fully in every aspect of the program day, helping to keep the campers engaged and on task. • Interact sensitively with the children, listening to them, encouraging positive social interactions and reassuring them when needed.
