Guiding Eyes for the Blind

Who We Are

Guiding Eyes for the Blind provides guide dogs to people with vision loss. We are passionate about connecting exceptional dogs with individuals for greater independence. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we provide all services completely free of charge to people who are blind or with vision loss. At Guiding Eyes, we rely upon the contributions of our generous donors to fulfill our mission. More than 2,000 volunteers are a vital part of our Guiding Eyes community. They participate in everything from raising, training, and socializing potential guide dogs to supporting our day-to-day operations. Our puppy raising regions stretch from Maine to North Carolina, and west to Colorado, with additional opportunities for remote puppy raisers now available.

There are two Puppy Raising regions available for volunteers to choose from based on their location:

  • Montgomery Region – Serves Montgomery County, portions of Prince George’s County, Howard County, and parts of Washington, DC.
  • Northern Virginia Region – Serves Fairfax County and the surrounding areas of Northern Virginia as well as portions of Washington, DC.

Volunteers are able to choose the region that best aligns with their residence and proximity to regional activities and support.

What Volunteers Do

Volunteers raise puppies to prepare them for becoming guide dogs for the visually impaired.
