Who We Are
AAUW has been advocating for women and girls since 1881 and into the future. Though we are nonpartisan, we are not values-neutral: We fight to remove the barriers and biases that stand in the way of gender equity, and we advocate for federal, state, and local laws and policies to ensure equity and end discrimination.
In support of these goals, the Gaithersburg branch holds an occassional used-book sale to raise scholarship funds for women at Montgomery College and The Universities at Shady Grove.
Branch programs are open to anyone; just request the Zoom link for scheduling information. A monthly virtual program hosts distinguished speakers on health and public policy issues impacting women and families. HerStory is a monthly introduction to little-known women who made major contributions to medicine, science, technology, and women’s rights. The branch also hosts a monthly virtual meeting to discuss the Great Decisions topics published by the Foreign Policy Association.
What Volunteers Do
AAUW Gaithersburg sponsors used book sales to raise funds for scholarships for women and advocacy programs for women/girls. We promote environmental awareness by recycling thousands of used books at modest prices to encourage reading and literacy. Books are organized into 60+categories.
Perfect opportunity for people who like books. To volunteer, send an e-mail to booksale@meral.com with the dates and times you can help and a phone number. Students: include your school and grade.
*** Currently, we do not have any opportunities. When our new projects are finalized, we will update our page.***
