Who We Are

The Edlavitch DCJCC’s Youth Action Institute is the place for youth and teens in the DC area to become socially responsible, civically engaged leaders who are motivated to solve today’s most pressing challenges.

Through fun, engaging volunteer opportunities that address issues like climate change, homelessness, and food insecurity, teens will grow their leadership skills, earn service-learning hours, and make new friends.

Though this is a secular program, the YAI is guided by Judaism’s imperative to heal the world and bring about social change.

The YAI is targeted to youth ages 11-18.

What Volunteers Do

Volunteers have the opportunity to join in with one of our many volunteer projects. From working directly with our partner organizations (such as DC Central Kitchen, SOME, A Wider Circle, Lutheran Social Services, etc) to engaging in fun and meaningful indirect service projects such as assembling care kits for patients undergoing chemotherapy, making no-sew blankets for foster youth, and even making shelf stable snack packs to donate to food banks around the DC area.
