Who We Are
MISSION: To break social barriers between for people with disabilities. Our school program model is The GOTTA DIG IT program, intended to educate and advocate for social inclusion for people with disabilities, using principles of mindfulness and compassion. Our community program models include various compassion-based mindful inclusion programs.
What Volunteers Do
Our school wide programs teach inclusion practices not only to children, but to parents, teachers and ,in turn, to the community as a whole. Our 2 most effective techniques are through EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING and FACE TO FACE CONTACT, always emphasizing mindfulness and compassion. Experiential learning is done through setting up stations where mainstream kids (and adults) can experience first hand what it's like to have various differences in abilities. Face to Face contact with volunteers who have disabilities allows mainstream kids an opportunity to ask questions and interact directly with people with disabilities, without fear. We focus on common human experiences instead of just the differences between us. We're here to educate by embracing the qualities that unify us all, and to promote social inclusion to the point that it's effortless. We prioritize people with disabilities to be among the mentors in this program, modeling how much each and every one of us has to offer our community.
