Outreach and community service are important parts of Epworth's character, with service opportunities each month for adults, youth, and children. Many of our usual service activities are temporarily suspended, but we hope soon to resume such activities as supporting Gaithersburg-HELP by collecting non-perishable food and raising money to help hungry families in our community. Student volunteers also typically assist in Epworth's annual community events: the Easter Egg Hunt, vacation Bible school, soccer and basketball clinics, and October Harvest Festival. Epworth takes seriously the "learning" component of SSL, and we try to ensure that students really understand the underlying sources of whatever issue our community services is designed to address, whether it is the environmental considerations associated with our stream clean-ups or the societal considerations associated with our anti-hunger activities. We also emphasize the inter-connectedness of different community and faith-based organizations working together to address the same social issue in different and complementary ways.
