Who We Are
The Funeral Consumers Alliance of Maryland and Environs is the volunteer-run local affiliate of the national non-profit consumer education and advocacy organization, the Funeral Consumers Alliance (FCA). We advocate for fair practices in the funeral industry at the local and state level for Maryland, Delaware, and the District of Columbia. We maintain an informative web site and provide information to consumers, enabling them to make affordable and dignified arrangements for their loved ones or to plan ahead for themselves.
What Volunteers Do
We are a small group of dedicated volunteers who maintain an informational website, stay abreast of local regulatory and legislative matters regarding funeral service providers and cemeteries, advocate for consumers at the legislative and regulatory level in Maryland, answer emails seeking information, and offer local educational presentations and community events to facilitate understanding of consumer rights. We meet several times a year, on Saturday mornings. We do not have a physical office. Volunteers are needed to help us keep abreast of local issues related to funeral practices and legislation, research and write articles for our web site and newsletters, keep our web content current by periodically checking links on the site, and participate in educational community events and outreach. Periodically we need help obtaining data for our mortuary price survey from funeral establishments. Those interested in being more involved may attend a Board meeting and learn more.
