Who We Are
Our mission is to reach students who especially need academic help at a crucial time in their impressionable years, giving them academic assistance, including problem solving techniques. Our vision is to help students reach their full potential by setting goals for themselves and using their improved academic/thinking skills. Volunteers improve their own academic/thinking skills by guiding and helping younger students.
We are an organization of volunteer tutors. Our director, a professional teacher/tutor trains and supervises the volunteers. Students can acquire volunteer hours with us. We also have adult tutors. Volunteers choose their days and times at any time throughout the year.
What Volunteers Do
Our director evaluates students who come for tutoring to find their skill levels, strengths, and weaknesses, and places them at the right level of difficulty in our skill building books for reading/writing, English, and math. Students range in ability from kindergarten through grade eight in reading and through grade five in math. We provide individualized instruction on the right learning level for each student and help with homework as needed.
Volunteer tutors use our books and materials to guide students in their progress. Students learn by doing.
