Who We Are
The Montgomery County Commission for Women (CFW) was established by county law in 1972 and is charged with the responsibility of advising the County Executive, the County Council, the public and the agencies of the county, state and federal governments on the issues of concern to women. The CFW is comprised of 15 county residents appointed by the County Executive and confirmed by the County Council. Commissioners serve three-year terms without compensation. The Commission is supported by a full time executive director and program manager. The Montgomery County Human Trafficking Prevention Committee (HTPC) was created based on a recommendation from the Commission. The HTPC is separate from the HTPC but is supported by the CFW executive director and program manager.
What Volunteers Do
The CFW generally works in three areas:
(1) Education and Outreach (including sponsoring programs and events)
(2) Information and Referral
(3) Legislative and Policy Advocacy
Volunteers are utilized on an as-needed basis. Tasks may include general office work or assistance with events. The CFW has a robust internship program for juniors and seniors in high school as well as those in college and graduate school. Details may be found on our website.
We currently have SSL hours for students in grades 6-12 to participate in our Women's Legislative Briefing on January 30 as part of our Emerging Leaders Program. Students will hear from 6 speakers about advocacy and the voter involvement.
