Who We Are
Olney Ballet Theater is committed to providing arts education opportunities by putting on high-quality productions that allow young dancers and actors to perform in a theater setting before live audiences. Our young members are given opportunities to gain technical skills by supporting production, operations, costuming, and make-up, and personal artistic growth by performing alongside professional and semi-professional guest dancers and artists - an invaluable tool along a performer's personal training journey.
OBT is equally committed to becoming an educational resource that provides cultural enrichment for the community, particularly for the community's young people, through presentations of professional-level, original productions of understandable, entertaining story ballets performed by young dancers.
Membership in OBT is open, by audition, to all interested young dancers who seek performance opportunities in addition to those at their individual dance studio programs. No person, on the grounds of race, color, national origin, or sex, who is otherwise qualified, shall be excluded from participation in Olney Ballet Theatre. Furthermore, no person who is otherwise qualified shall be excluded from participation or be denied the benefits of or be subjected to discrimination solely by reason of his or her handicap.
What Volunteers Do
The Olney Ballet's fundraising and community outreach efforts would not be possible without the support of volunteers. We offer a variety of volunteering opportunities that give our volunteers a way to expand on specialized expertise and gain education in live theater and show production, while helping to fulfill the organization's mission to provide cultural enrichment and arts education for the community.
Opportunities range from front of house tasks like ushering & ticket taking, to back of house functions in stage management, green room management, costuming, hair/make-up, and set building & design. Before the show begins, volunteers can support auditions and rehearsals, costuming (sewing, sorting), and event promotion. Dancers with OBT can also be eligible to volunteer for select OBT community outreach opportunities throughout the year.
