Who We Are

The Mission of the M-NCPPC (Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission), Montgomery Parks is:

Protect and interpret our valuable natural and cultural resources; balance demand for recreation with the need for conservation; offer various enjoyable recreational activities that encourage healthy lifestyles; and provide clean, safe, and accessible places.

What Volunteers Do

Volunteers assist with serving the public in Montgomery Parks, and promoting our values, listed below:

  • Stewardship: Manage the county park system to meet needs of current and future generations.
  • Recreation: Offer leisure activities that strengthen the body, sharpen the mind, and renew the spirit.
  • Excellence: Deliver high quality products, services, and experiences.
  • Integrity: Operate with a honest and balanced perspective.
  • Service: Be courteous, helpful, and accessible internally and externally.
  • Education: Promote learning opportunities.
  • Collaboration: Work with residents, communities, public and private organizations, and policymakers.
  • Diversity: Support and embrace cultural differences and offer suitable programs, activities, and services.
  • Dedication: Commit to getting the job done the right way, no matter what it takes

All Ages (depending on the volunteer activity) plus Student Volunteers help us demonstrate these values by assisting Montgomery Parks at special events by educating park guests about the environment through crafts and demonstrations; helping them have a good time outdoors; engaging guests in an outgoing manner; helping with setting up and taking down the event; and working well with others.  Students can also help us build trails, remove litter from parks and streams, get rid of non-native invasive plants.  They can also assist as camp counselors; ice skating assistants; nature center animal care aides and with archaeological digs.  Student volunteers help parks in millions of ways!
