Teach the Future is a 501C(3) organization to help children with ADHD or learning disabilities from low income families. Kids with ADHD or learning disabilities often do not get enough support in their education, especially if they are enrolled in the regular school program (which is more likely for less privileged schools that do not have the resources to accommodate every student’s needs). Those children face exceptional challenges in their academic and social life, and frequently have low self-confidence as a result. We believe that kids with ADHD or learning disabilities can succeed if they are provided the right environment to help them learn. Individualized teaching is the best way to help children with such needs, but it can be prohibitively expensive for most families. That is where we step in. We can provide supplemental learning opportunities for these children that allow them to work one-on-one with a tutor every week, all at no cost to you. You can take a look at our services here, or apply for our program here. Since we launched, we have helped 16 students in Maryland’s Prince George’s County, Howard County, and Montgomery County, the vast majority of them students of color. We have signed up 20 volunteers, and they have spent hundreds of hours helping those kids build educational foundations, raise their confidence, and learn to have better social relationships with their peers. We are constantly expanding our scope and presence, and we will have a new chapter opened in Nashville this fall.
What Volunteers Do
Teach the Future primarily aims to serve elementary and middle school children with learning disabilities or ADHD who come from less privileged communities and backgrounds. Our main program provides supplementary one-on-one math tutoring for those students every Saturday. We are also partnering with local schools to provide tutoring after school, and summer programs. All of our services are completely free, and they would not be possible without help from our wonderful volunteers. You can meet our volunteers and learn more about them here. If you are interested in serving the community and like to work with children, sign up now to volunteering with us.
