Who We Are

Founded in Bethesda, Maryland in November, 2016, the Roosters Rugby Club is made up of players who attend both public and private schools in Montgomery County, MD, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. We’ve created a diverse team with players representing not only the United States but Europe, Africa, and South America. Our goal is to foster the growth of a club with teammates from diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. We aim to provide our players with the necessary skills and opportunities to build a team focused on understanding and cooperation both on and off the field. As we introduce the game to new players it is our hope that when they move on from our team, they will continue to contribute to teaching younger generations the importance of crossing cultural and socioeconomic boundaries through cooperation, understanding and sportsmanship.

What Volunteers Do

By recruiting students from various public and private schools in the metropolitan area we've developed a club with players representing the United States, Mexico, Europe, South America and Africa. With practices three days a week and participating in, as well as hosting tournaments, the players have built a rapport and skill-set based on mutual respect and understanding which they are ultimately able to apply both on and off the field when interacting competitively with other teams from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. We are in contact with various embassies that have reached out to school students from their counties living in our area to aid us in building a diverse club where we can foster players and teach them to embrace and understand the societal and cultural differences surrounding them on a daily basis.
