Opportunities From: Montgomery County Volunteer Center

In addition to our food pantry and pop-up distributions, the So What Else Montgomery County team also operates a robust home delivery program for clients all across the DMV who are unable to leave their homes, either due to disabilities, lack of transportation, or both. As a result, we are always in need of volunteer home delivery drivers that can donate their time, and their vehicle, to help transport groceries from our pantry to our clients. 

Requirements: Interested drivers must be 18 years or older, bring their own vehicle, and have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance. 

Activity Description: Once signed up, volunteers will reach out to Megan ahead of time, confirming their presence, and then arrive at our pantry on the day and time of their choosing to pick up grocery bags and deliver them. Each driver will follow a predetermined route prepared by our team. Please text her once you sign up to get the delivery route with the number 2407054345. Most delivery routes take around 1-2 hours to complete, depending on the number of clients that day. More information can be provided at the time of the pick up.

*At this time, we DO NOT provide vehicles for drivers.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

*To get to our warehouse for your report time, type "4924 Wyaconda Rd, North Bethesda, MD" into your GPS. This will take you directly to the entrance of the parking lot. After you pull into the lot, drive straight and turn left as if you are headed to Dogtopia. Keep driving and pass Dogtopia. Our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. Parking is not permitted in front of Dogtopia and against the fence. When you arrive please park and look for a staff person by the loading dock or in the resource center, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

This volunteer opportunity requires a serious commitment, as the seniors rely on us to deliver their food items on time, twice a month. Volunteers are expected to adhere to a few important guidelines to ensure smooth and respectful service. First, please call the client to confirm their availability before making a delivery. Next, ensure that you deliver the food respectfully and punctually. Finally, report back with details about the delivery, any issues encountered, and any feedback from the client. All of these details are outlined in the flyers provided.

You can assist Nourishing Bethesda by picking up and transporting recovered bread and bagels from bakeries in the county as needed. Hours vary. SSL hour available for MOCO students

We operate out of the BCC Rescue Squad, 5020 Battery Lane, Bethesda.

We operate under a Choice Market model. This model gives our clients the ability to choose the food items we offer that best meet the needs of their families in a grocery-store-like experience. This new model is the gold standard of food pantries--and deeply supports Nourishing Bethesda's commitment to honor our clients with agency and respect. There are various new volunteer positions to choose from! 

How can you help?

Shifts often fill up early, but openings often become available when volunteers need to cancel, so please check back. 

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian  and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.

Won't you help us deliver groceries to low-income seniors who can't get out to a food pantry? Pick up food packages at the Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad on Friday afternoons and transport them to a low income senior citizen apartment building in the Bethesda area. Seniors are among the most vulnerable to food insecurity. Please help ensure they are receiving the food and nutrition they need to maintain their health and well-being.

Drive your own vehicle to transport food packages to area apartment buildings. May require indoor masking and lifting/carrying items up to 25 lbs. in weight.

We’re looking for caring and committed individuals to join our team! As a volunteer or board member, you’ll play an essential role in helping us fight hunger and support families in need. Whether you’re packing and distributing food, assisting with community events, or shaping our social media presence, your time and effort will directly impact the lives of our neighbors.

Drivers needed for Saturday!

Harvest Intercontinental Church in Olney, Maryland serves the mid county region providing food and other vital services to residents every week. Play a vital role and make an impact on 550 families in the mid county region by serving on Saturday mornings delivering to designated sites and homebound residents.

Help is needed on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 1pm for pickup/deliver boxes of groceries and other essential items to residents in several Mid County communities. 

The hub volunteer coordinator will contact each person to provide additional information. Specific instructions will be given when you arrive at the distribution site. Volunteers may pick up boxes at 16227 Batchellors Forest Rd, Olney, Maryland 20832. Delivery is contact-less.  Drivers must be at least 18 years of age.

Harvest Mid-County Hub Food Rogram Protocol: All volunteers are required to have their masks upon entering the building and will have their temperature check upon arrival. Gloves will be provided to wear at all times while serving.

Volunteers may park between the D and E Lots and use the entrance doors that are next to the small traffic circle at the right side of the building.

Nourish Now is looking for pick-up/delivery drivers. Main responsibilities will include picking up food donations from a variety of companies and organizations in and around Montgomery County, MD. The job will require driving a box truck and/or a cargo style van.  We are open Monday-Friday 9:30 AM-3:30 PM. Please let us know what weekdays and times you are available!

Preferred Qualifications:

The Mid-County Consolidation Hub at Hughes United Methodist Church provides a variety of goods and services to more than 800 households each week, including home deliveries to seniors, single parent households, and those without transportation. 

Using your own vehicle, drive bags of food and other essential items and deliver outside a family's door. Bags will be loaded into your car and you will receive a list of addresses (usually 4 to 6 depending on the number of client referrals and drivers signed up for the day). Volunteers drop off at the client's doorstep and send a text saying that their food was delivered. Deliveries are in nearby Wheaton/Glenmont and Silver Spring, and typically take an hour to complete (up to two at most). 

Drivers enter the Hughes United Methodist Church lot from Windham Lane and pull up in front of the metal stairs that lead to the gym.  Must be adults (over 18) and sign a liability waiver, and should be comfortable lifting up to 20-25 pounds.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers to support the Takoma-Langley Park Resource Center, a multicultural one-stop center offering vital resources to the community.

hhhumanity.org helps around 160 students each week (children and their families) who need weekend nutrition. This enables the students to achieve their full potential at learning when they return to school on Monday.

We are looking for passionate and caring Volunteers who would make a difference in the students' lives by eliminating learning barriers.

This volunteering opportunity involves the following:

1. Picking up food supplies from Gaithersburg, MD

2. Drop off the food supplies at Bethesda, MD

Frequency: Once a week. Day and time can be flexible and coordinated to be consistent across the weeks

We have an urgent need for drivers in August and September! 

If you have 2-3 hours free on a Wednesday, in the late morning or early afternoon, you can make a big difference to our neighbors in need.

Seniors, families without child care or cars, and disabled individuals,  cannot take advantage of most food distribution options.  Imagine trying to take a bus to pick up free food if you had toddlers, or used a wheelchair, or had an invalid spouse at home you had to care for!

Oak Chapel Food Hub helps people in these situations. Each week, we fill 60 bags with produce, bread and staples, customized to the families' preferences where possible.  Where we need your help is in getting this food to the people we have promised it to.

Join us to help serve our community by delivering pre-packed food bags to shut-in and home bound neighbors in our community on Wednesdays from 2-4pm.

Volunteers deliver food bags in their own vehicles. Volunteers will pick up food bags and designated route from Oak Chapel UMC and deliver them to homes in a no-contact fashion.

Drivers Needed to Deliver Food
Contactless and Covid-Safe

Description

Bethesda Help, an all-volunteer organization serving neighbors in need in Bethesda and surrounding areas, needs Drivers to deliver a 3-day supply of food to clients within our service area.  The time commitment is 1-2 days a month, with actual delivery time usually 2-3 hours. Drivers pick up pre-packaged food bags from our pantry on Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda. All deliveries are made curbside, ensuring you and our clients stay Covid-safe.

Requirements: Drivers must have a cellphone, a vehicle, be a licensed driver, carry vehicle insurance, and attend a short virtual training session. Access to a computer is recommended to access delivery information.

Gaithersburg Meals on Wheels is an all-volunteer organization delivering two meals, five days per week, to homebound disabled individuals who cannot safely shop for food or prepare their own meals. We are seeking drivers to pick up the meals at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg and deliver them to approximately 10 to 12 recipients in Gaithersburg, roughly once every other week. Our wholesale food partners delivers produce to us on a regular basis, and we share it with 2 other community organizations in Silver Spring/Burtonsville. We need volunteers with vans or trucks that can transport 600 - 2,000 pounds of produce from our main location to the other food pantries. A truck or panel van with load capacity of 1,000 pounds is ideal for smaller loads. For larger loads, a 10 foot box truck with a lifegate that can handle 2-4 pallets of produce and other food is best. 

Drivers are needed around 11:30am every week on Tuesdays, and the 2nd Friday of every month. We also need drivers to be on call for "short-notice" deliveries from wholesale partners that can happen at any time. 

We will provide cloth masks and gloves for volunteer drivers (if needed).
