Opportunities From: Montgomery County Volunteer Center

Volunteer: 2026 International Overdose Awareness Day & Free Color for a Cause Run, Walk, Roll for Recovery

We are very excited for this year’s events and we are appreciative of your service to our commUNITY! Your partnership continues to be critical to reducing harms from mental health and substance use disorders.

We are doing something a little different this year with the Color for a Cause: A Color Run, Walk, Roll for Recovery through downtown Rockville!

9:00 am Memorial Ceremony

9:30 am Color for a Cause: A Color Run, Walk, Roll for Recovery will begin.

Participants may choose to be dusted with color along the way or not and can make multiple trips around the one (1) mile course if they would like. It’s a free and fun way for children to burn off some excess energy, so bring them too!

9:00-11:00 am Resource Fair, COPE Trailer, and food vendor will be available throughout.

You can see more details and register for a table, Color for a Cause Run/Walk/Roll for Recovery, and/or submit a photo of a loved one lost to a substance use disorder here: https://montgomerygoespurple.org/events

SSL Hours Available for Volunteering

Here are the student needs - we need 10-20 to hand out water and 20-30 to dust the runners as they go by. We also need students to help our resource fair vendors load and unload their stuff.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.

Please share widely the flyer below.
