Let's Play America is looking for enthusiastic teen and adult volunteers to help make our 18th Annual Play Day a fun and memorable experience for children and families in our community.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of activities, including:

Welcoming and registering participants Assisting with games, crafts, and activity stations Helping with event setup and cleanup Providing general support throughout the event Creating a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all attendees

Event Details

Date: Sunday, September 13, 2026 Volunteer Shift: 12:00 PM – 5:30 PM Event Time: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM Location: Takoma Park Middle School, 7611 Piney Branch Road, Takoma Park, MD 20912

No previous volunteer experience is required. This is a great opportunity for students seeking community service hours, adults looking to give back, and anyone who enjoys working with children and families.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must be reliable, friendly, and willing to help wherever needed. Volunteers under the age of 18 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent, legal guardian, or another responsible adult (18+) for the duration of their volunteer shift.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.

Let’s Play America is a nonprofit organization based in Takoma Park, Maryland, dedicated to strengthening communities through the power of play. We are seeking enthusiastic, mission-driven individuals who value play and want to share their talents. These volunteer roles have the potential to grow into paid positions.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

1. Play Event Planner
Volunteer for 3–6 months alongside our Co-Founder and Executive Director, Pat Rumbaugh, The Play Lady. Learn the ins and outs of planning a community play event.

Mostly virtual commitment

Required to attend and actively participate in play events

2. Website Volunteer (WordPress)
Support and maintain the Let’s Play America website, letsplayamerica.org.

WordPress experience required

Attendance at play events expected

3. Newsletter Specialist
Assist with our quarterly Play Page newsletter.

Experience with Flodesk.com required

4. Grant Researcher/Writer
Help identify grant opportunities and write grant proposals.

Grant writing experience preferred

Volunteer Opportunity: Play Event Planner

We are looking for a creative and organized volunteer to help us plan and coordinate play-based events for our community!

What you’ll do:

Assist in designing and organizing engaging play events

Collaborate with our team to bring new ideas to life

Help with scheduling, setup, and event logistics

Training & Support:

You will receive direct training and guidance from our Director

Ongoing support to help you feel confident in planning and managing events

Ideal for you if you:

Enjoy working with people and bringing communities together

Are creative, organized, and detail-oriented

Want to gain hands-on experience in event planning

Have flexible availability to help with planning and events

Time Commitment: A minimum of three hours a week & increases the week of events.

This is a volunteer position that has the opportunity to become a paid position.

Let's Play America is seeking a volunteer who is enthusiastic about connecting a nonprofit with sustainable funding!

The nonprofit Let’s Play America is based in Takoma Park, Maryland. LPA’s mission is to increase opportunities for all people to enjoy play through partnering with communities, organizations, and individuals to create locally-inspired, playful events.

LPA is looking for person(s) that enjoy looking for grants and writing grant proposals. Experience in writing grants is preferred, but not mandatory. LPA has received grants locally and nationally. The grant writer would work directly with the Executive Director.

LPA is looking for individuals who value play and would enjoy working behind the scenes to prepare for Play Days and other play events. You would also join us at these events in person. We are in need of people with computer skills, assisting with a variety of tasks from helping our executive director write articles, edit articles, look for funders, and sponsors. We are looking for volunteers that are sixteen years of age and older. If you are in need of community service we will discuss your volunteer service with you prior to you starting. If you just wish to volunteer from as little as two hours a week or more please let us know.
