Do you like talking on the phone and meeting new people?  The Friendly Caller Chair manages our team of volunteers who call our Rockville Meals on Wheels clients on the phone for brief social conversations.

Description:

Chairs Rockville Meals on Wheels Friendly Caller program, which provides 10-20 minute friendly, social phone conversations to Rockville Meals on Wheels clients.  Currently RMoW has approximately 85 clients, 5-10 of whom participate in the Friendly Caller program.  Matches Volunteers to Clients Facilitates quarterly and/or ad hoc Training for new volunteer Maintains Friendly Caller training materials (slides and 10 pg pdf) Provides support for Friendly Callers ad hoc and thru quarterly virtual meetings 

Time Commitment: 5-10 hrs/ month
Skills: background in social work preferred, google sheets, google slides, email, will interact with an online program, Zippy Meals (system of record for volunteer and client data).

Are your mornings free?  Great for new retirees with a background in administration or management (or those who would like to help Rockville Meals on Wheels but don't want to deliver meals).

Chairpeople-of-the-Day or COD's, act as a sort of office manager and are in many ways the public face of Rockville Meals on Wheels. Duties include receiving meals from our supplier, answering phone calls, managing volunteers, and doing some light paperwork. If interested, you'll receive on-the-job training from one of our current COD's. Duties can be shared and teams or couples are welcome! Hours are 7:30am-12:00pm, one day a week.

NOTE:  Due to the vulnerable nature of our population, and required training, we do not accept volunteers with court mandated service hours. 

Right now we are in need of SUBSTITUTE CODs.  

Drivers and visitors deliver food to our clients in the Rockville, MD area. We have four delivery routes with 1-20 stops each. We like to send volunteers out in pairs, but many of our volunteers go solo.  Volunteers pick up the food from our location on Veirs Mill Rd. btwn 9:30-10am each weekday morning and usually return by noon. Most of our volunteers regularly deliver one day a week but substitutes (who are called on an as-needed basis) are always welcome!

Regular social contact is critical, but especially hard to find for people who are homebound. Many of our clients are in need of this crucial social support. Volunteers are needed to make friendly calls to our clients and check on their well being. Volunteers can give back and help support a client in need from the comfort of their home.

Volunteers commit to 10-30 minute friendly, social phone conversations once a week at a time that is mutually agreeable to both you and your client. We are seeking volunteers interested in making a long term commitment (2 months are more). Training will be provided.
