Join the University of Maryland Pre-College Programs team in an exciting volunteer opportunity supporting UMD Concessions during basketball games at the SECU Center!

Volunteers will help run concession stands, serve guests, and assist with various customer service tasks during UMD home basketball games. This is a fun, fast-paced, and team-oriented environment — perfect for high school students looking to earn service hours while contributing to a great cause.

All proceeds from this volunteer effort go directly toward supporting Pre-College Programs at the University of Maryland, helping expand educational opportunities for future Terps!

Important Details:

Games typically last 5.5–7 hours.

Volunteers must ensure they have reliable transportation to and from the SECU Center.

Volunteers must be 14 years or older.

Participants can earn SSL hours for their service.

Concessions experience is not required — training will be provided on-site.

Not every neighborhood in the Washington, D.C., region offers convenient access to a brick-and-mortar food pantry or other hunger resources. To help fill this gap, the Capital Area Food Bank brings no-cost pop-up markets directly into neighborhoods where they’re needed through their Mobile Markets, which offer monthly distribution of free fruits, vegetables, shelf-stable food, and other groceries to area residents.

Mobile Markets occur on the last or second-to-last Thursday of each month at the Rockville Senior Center. Volunteers are needed to assist with food distribution, including setting up tables of produce, bagging produce, helping families select and take food to their cars, and cleaning up.

This opportunity is available for student volunteers to earn SSL hours. Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. For SSL hours to be added to a student’s record, students must submit MCPS Form 560-51, Student Service Learning Activity Verification Form, to the school SSL coordinator by the due dates on the form (no later than the last Friday in May), which can be found at bit.ly/SSLReflection. Students will need to complete sections 1 and 3 of MCPS Form 560-51 in full. In lieu of section 2 of MCPS Form 560-51, students should attach the “SSL Hour Form” completed and provided to the student by the City of Rockville supervisor.

For the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month(Jan, Feb, Mar, May, June 2025), volunteers will play a crucial role in assisting disabled children and young adults in learning basic Taekwondo skills alongside our experienced instructors. Volunteer duties may include providing one-on-one support during practice sessions, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment, offering encouragement and motivation, and helping with the setup and organization of the Taekwondo activities.

Election Workers and Election Judges are registered Maryland voters who volunteer to assist voters during the election process. Election Workers and Election Judges are instrumental in ensuring fair and accessible elections for all voters and protecting the integrity of the election process. In accordance with Federal and State law, they must perform duties assigned by the local Board of Elections faithfully, diligently, and without partiality or prejudice.

Every election approximately 4,111 Election Judges and Election Workers are needed to fill a variety of roles to ensure the election is carried out honestly and accurately.

We offer a variety of positions with full-day and part-day hours of service. Some positions require prior experience and/or use of an automobile. Election Judges who are bilingual in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and French are needed to help voters requesting language assistance.

Election Judges and Election Workers receive a set stipend (payment), based on their assigned position. To receive the service stipend, you must successfully complete all required training and fulfill all election duties to which you are assigned.

* Election Workers who previously served as an election judge in 2022 election cycle or earlier will receive a $100.00 bonus for each full Election Day and/or each Early Voting Day or $50.00 for each part-day served during the 2024 elections.

For your service, you may either earn a stipend (payment) or Student Service-Learning (SSL) Hours. Your social security number must be submitted to receive stipend (payment). This can be provided once application has been processed and submitted in EJ Connection.  If you wish to receive SSL hours for your service, you do not need to provide your Social Security Number. SSL hours and applicable form will be emailed within six weeks after the election. The SSL form must be submitted to the corresponding MCPS SSL Coordinator (MCPS list) or staff.

Election Workers with Spanish speaking fluency are especially needed as the Board of Elections assigns Election Workers who are fluent in Spanish to every polling place in accordance with the requirements of Section 203 of the 1975 Voting Rights Act. Bilingual workers are needed for Early Voting and Election Day.

We are looking for a talented team to met to develop projects which will help those who have impairment and medical needs. Project concepts can cover the full range of available options to incorporate skill in 3d printing, robotics, design, programming, medical and nursing care and other areas to serve the practical needs of those with disabilities or medical needs in our community.

We are planning to meet weekly at Rockville Public Library or Potomac Public Library.  Participants should have an interest in helping others and some experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above. The initial meetings will be about concepts and we will collectively work to design solutions. At that point we will work with the target community of individuals who are intended to benefit from the project to further refine and test the solution.

Looking for an intelligent and talented team of high school or very talented middle school students who want to be part of making solutions for those in need.

WAPO welcome youth musicians to join our team.

We have two concerts scheduled in Fall and Spring at Culture Center each year in Gaithersburg, and it is free to community and public.

Our youth musicians will perform with professional and amateur musicians and community choirs with classical and popular musical and songs.

Each concert has been introducing the music and enjoy the music with all music lovers at all age group.

In addition, we recruit experienced robotics students to teach mechanical design, hardware-focused programming, engineering documentation, and other skills essential for robotics competitions. This ongoing, practical program strengthens students’ abilities in engineering, coding, teamwork, and technical communication. Volunteers may bring their own curriculum or receive training to teach the club’s materials, ensuring consistent and high-quality learning opportunities for all participants.

The Rescue Squad is looking for individuals to help with administrative tasks. This can include bookkeeping, accounting, data entry, working with spreadsheets, and help with fundraising. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has an adoption event on Sunday January 25th at the Silver Spring PetSmart.

Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

The final day to sign up for any event is the Friday before that specific event.

Signing up on this platform does NOT guarantee you a volunteer spot. On the Monday before the event, our events team will reach out to reconfirm your availability. You MUST respond to that email to be added to the list of volunteers for the event.

We would love to have more groups join in hosting activities at PBES and businesses either hosting in-store kindness events or making in-kind donations for the raffle. If your group would like to host an activity at PBES please contact me.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by working onsite at Kindness Day. Community service hours are also available.

The CFW is seeking volunteers to assist with our 46th Women's Legislative Briefing!  The Women’s Legislative Briefing (WLB) is the premier and longest-standing women’s legislative event in the state of Maryland. It is coordinated by the Montgomery County Commission for Women and brings together advocates, policymakers, and emerging leaders to empower, engage, and mobilize Marylanders around issues affecting women and girls throughout the state. The WLB inspires, promotes action, and helps bridge perspectives. This year's theme is Stronger Together: Leading with Vision, Voices, and Values.  We need assistance on two days: Friday, January 30 for pre-conference prep and on Saturday, January 31, the day of the conference. SSL hours are available for students!

Help Kids Sleep Better – Volunteer to Deliver Beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace!

Imagine a child sleeping on the floor — now imagine being the reason that child gets their very own bed. At Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), we believe no child should go without a bed, yet far too many are.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: get kids off the floor and into beds of their own. We build and deliver complete twin-size bed sets — including a frame, mattress, sheets, pillow, and blanket — to children in need.

Event Description
Join us for an morning of purpose, teamwork, and joy! Together, we’ll deliver pre-built bed parts and assemble them right in the homes of families in need. Once assembled, we’ll make each bed sleep-ready — fully dressed with all the bedding a child needs for a warm, restful night.

No experience necessary — just bring your heart and helping hands. We’ll guide you every step of the way.

Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 8:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control.(Those participating will receive double community service hours- (NOT FOR SSL). *ONLY FOR THIS SHIFT*)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

*To reach our warehouse, type "4924 Wyaconda Rd, North Bethesda, MD" into your GPS. This will take you directly to the entrance of the parking lot. After you pull into the lot, please look for the yellow parking spots immediately to your right. You can park in any of the yellow parking spots in the lot. Parking is not permitted in front of Dogtopia and against the fence. To find our warehouse entrance, look for signs for "Dogtopia" and then keep walking; our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. When you arrive please walk to the outdoor tables and ask for a staff person, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. How to prepare: Volunteers should arrive wearing closed-toed shoes and clothing they can move around in and get dirty. Join our team as a Client Check-In and Data Entry Assistant to support families in need! We're looking for friendly, detail-oriented volunteers (BILINGUAL) comfortable using computers to help with check-ins, appointment scheduling, and logging services. Shifts are available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM. Training is provided!

Your role will ensure smooth operations during our service hours and help families access essential resources efficiently.

Responsibilities:

Greet and check clients in using a spreadsheet

Accurately log diaper distribution details

Assist clients in scheduling future appointments via SignUpGenius

Enter client visit data into our secure database (Service Insights)

Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Participants have told us that they can hear the trees thanking them. It's an opportunity to be outside and make a difference for the environment. The activity is open to everyone. Training is on site.  We have tools and gloves to lend.

NOW Recruiting Middle and High school students of any gender for the new year!

Four Seasons Dancers is a non-profit dance troupe performing global-inspired dance programs in the Maryland/DC/Virginia area in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, community events, local festivals, rehabilitation centers and other organization.

Criteria:
Our junior troupe is for students who are at least 12 years of age, currently taking dance or who have prior dance/gymnastics training and who love to perform. All students interested in being a part of the troupe must audition.

Auditions  start in AUGUST/SEPTEMBER (Gaithersburg, MD ) 

JUNIOR TROUPE INFORMATION: Costumes (for performances) will be lent to each dancer at no charge. To prepare for our programs, dancers will attend a weekly class regularly and enroll in our semester beginning September, 2025. Additional rehearsals during the week may be scheduled in preparation for performances. Students will NOT earn SSL hours for attending class rehearsals. Dancers WILL earn SSL hours during performances for members of the community.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has an adoption event on Sunday February 1st at the Alexandria PetSmart.

Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

The final day to sign up for any event is the Friday before that specific event.

Signing up on this platform does NOT guarantee you a volunteer spot. On the Monday before the event, our events team will reach out to reconfirm your availability. You MUST respond to that email to be added to the list of volunteers for the event.

World Cancer Day, observed every year on February 4, is a global initiative that raises awareness, promotes prevention and early detection, and mobilizes communities worldwide to take action against cancer.

As part of our World Cancer Day Youth Campaign, ASL Pink Foundation is inviting high school girls to serve as Youth Ambassadors and help spread breast cancer awareness among youth and their communities.

Youth Ambassadors will participate in an interactive, age-appropriate Breast Health Education Workshop, where they will:
-Learn key information about breast cancer and early detection
-Engage in role-play scenarios designed to build confidence and communication skills for talking about breast health and breast cancer with family and friends
-Receive informational materials to take home and share with friends, parents, guardians, and female relatives to help spread awareness beyond the workshop.                                               

-Engage in a hands-on advocacy project to develop breast cancer awareness materials that will be used for community education and outreach.

What is a Teen Advisory Board (TAB)? TAB is a group of library teen volunteers that helps the library and the community by implementing, promoting and advocating for youth services in Montgomery County. The Teen Advisory Board will provide feedback on programs, assist librarians with planning and running events and will be library advocates. TAB volunteers have monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month, and other volunteer opportunities throughout the month. Feel free to drop in to check it out!

A beautiful, movement-based show that revisits the classic film The Red Balloon and will delight audiences of all ages and speakers of all languages. Nothing can go right for the old man, whose days are gray and dreary, until he is visited by a friendly red balloon. In the playful physical style of 1930’s silent movies, the old man–an adult version of the boy in the film – regains his youthful spirit.

Usher volunteers will have the opportunity to help seat guests, pass out programs and scan tickets. Ushers must wear all black with limited logos on t-shirts; no ripped jeans; and closed toed shoes. (no crocs) Ushers must sign in and out. If you are unable to make it to usher, please unregister yourself on the site. Join us for an inspiring and dynamic concert with our talented musicians for this Black History Month observance, where we will honor the power of music in our community. This concert features the Accord Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Julien Benichou, and Assistant Conductor Gloria Yin.

SSL Responsibilities include stage and welcome table set up (guided with WCM staff member), greeting and passing out programs, setting up and managing reception (e.g., helping facilitate small talk conversations with guests, tidying during reception), resetting the stage and reception area, and ensuring all used spaces are tidying back to how they were found. Help Kids Sleep Better – Volunteer to Deliver Beds with Sleep in Heavenly Peace!

Imagine a child sleeping on the floor — now imagine being the reason that child gets their very own bed. At Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), we believe no child should go without a bed, yet far too many are.

Our mission is simple yet powerful: get kids off the floor and into beds of their own. We build and deliver complete twin-size bed sets — including a frame, mattress, sheets, pillow, and blanket — to children in need.

Event Description
Join us for an morning of purpose, teamwork, and joy! Together, we’ll deliver pre-built bed parts and assemble them right in the homes of families in need. Once assembled, we’ll make each bed sleep-ready — fully dressed with all the bedding a child needs for a warm, restful night.

No experience necessary — just bring your heart and helping hands. We’ll guide you every step of the way.

Drivers are needed on Thursdays to deliver food packages to the doorstep of vulnerable Upcounty families, that are not able to drive to one of our weekly distribution sites. Drivers should be able to lift up to 25 lbs.  Addresses of clients will be provided upon arrival at the Hub on delivery day. You will be delivering food directly to clients. 

Please arrive at the UpCounty Hub between 10:45am-11:00am on Thursday and pull around to the right side of the building to the loading dock. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAP SPOTS!  If possible please try to register for this shift by the Tuesday before so we can assign boxes to the correct number of cars.

Join us on February 28, 2026 from 1:00–4:30 pm at the Gaithersburg Public Library Medium Room 3 for our History Makers of Prathertown event. This special program celebrates the legacy and people of Prathertown, a historic African American community founded in 1883 and among the first of its kind in Maryland.

We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make this community-centered event a success.

Volunteer Roles Include:

Loading and unloading supplies from vehicles

Assisting with guest escort and check-in.

Distributing signs, information sheets, and handouts.

Setting up refreshments and snacks for participants.

What is a Teen Advisory Board (TAB)? TAB is a group of library teen volunteers that helps the library and the community by implementing, promoting and advocating for youth services in Montgomery County. The Teen Advisory Board will provide feedback on programs, assist librarians with planning and running events and will be library advocates. TAB volunteers have monthly meetings on the second Tuesday of the month, and other volunteer opportunities throughout the month. Feel free to drop in to check it out!

In our Giving Garden, a grow-to-give garden in  Potomac, many of our fourteen  4ft x 25 ft raised bed boards need to be replaced. We are looking for a group to help us remove old boards and install new heavier pressure treated lumber in their place.  No real construction experience needed, just the ability to lift the wood, use drills and screwdrivers to anchor them. Very flexible on date and time. 

The Youth Commission helps shape the future of Rockville by identifying gaps in youth services, advocating for innovative programs, and developing recommendations for the Mayor and Council. The commission consists of 11 members who are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the council. Members are appointed for one-year terms and may be reappointed for additional one-year terms. The commission meets a minimum of eight times per year and meetings are open to the public. If you are a middle or high school student in the City of Rockville and are interested in being an advocate for your peers, please submit your interest. Youth commissioners will serve a one-year term from October 2025-September 2026. Meetings are held in person or virtually, one day per month.

Brookside Gardens is seeking volunteers to help visitors learn about the ecological importance of butterflies and teach them what they can do in their own backyards to help sustain these extraordinary insects. Docents will welcome and educate visitors, provide information about the species within the conservatory exhibit, and share in the experience of delighting and enlightening all who enter. Docents will also aide in the adherence to USDA enforced guidelines, preventing the escape of exotic butterflies into our native ecosystem by monitoring visitors and doorways and enforcing exhibit rules.

Open April 1 to September 7, 2026.

Daily shifts from 9am-12pm and 12-3pm.
Minimum of 10 shifts required.

Join our next Volunteer Training - April 14th, 15th & 16th, 2026 from 9am to 4pm in Gaithersburg, MD.

Volunteers are the heart of CaringMatters. In order to responsibly serve patients and the bereaved, every volunteer who works directly with clients must complete a three-day introductory training session, which is often described by graduates as a "transformative experience." 

Because of the interaction volunteers have with clients, necessary background checks, paperwork and other items that must be completed before attending the New Volunteer Training.  These requirements include: 

21 years of age or older

Consenting to a background check (no cost to volunteer trainee) 

Attending an informal interview with Penny Gladhill, Director of Volunteer Helping Hands and co-founder of CaringMatters

After the three day training, specific program volunteers are required to complete additional training. Requirements for each program are detailed below. Please note that volunteers are able to volunteer with more than one program.

Brookside Gardens is celebrating Earth Month on April 26. We will be exploring the science and art of sustainability through child-driven projects, plantings, and activities.

We are seeking engaging volunteers to assist with children's activity booths and interact with the public. Volunteers will help set-up and clean-up activity materials and event spaces. Volunteers will also assist children during hands-on activities such as potting a plant, crafting, watercolor painting, science-based investigations, and others.

Volunteers must be available for the whole five-hour shift. Lunch included.

The Bullis Summer Programs Counselor in Training (CIT) Program is an experiential program for students typically between the ages of 14-15, designed to develop core leadership skills, integrity, character, communication, and initiative. The CIT acquires skills through active participation in the summer program activities, with instructors and staff as mentors. The CIT program is a model for promoting positive group dynamics, inspiring creativity, and fostering a nurturing and caring environment for all children.

Availability:

Candidates must be available to volunteer for at least one consecutive, two-week session between June 22nd-  August 14th  to participate in the program. Additional hours are available upon request. Please state which 2-week session(s) you are available for and if you would be interested in participating in the CIT program for more than one two-week session. CITs must choose the two-week session for which they are available.

Two-week Sessions:

Session 1: June 22 - July 2 (no camp July 3)

Session 2: July 6 - July 17

Session 3: July 20 – July 31

Session 4: August 3 - August 14

Program Requirements and Expectations

CIT roles are available in Athletic Camps, Specialty Camps, and Bulldog Day Camp

The CIT Program Coordinator will place CITs in specific camps if accepted into the program. CITs will work closely with the camp instructors during their assigned weeks.

In addition to on-site participation, CITs will be required to fulfill brief daily reflection activities online outside of camp time.

Must be available to volunteer for at least two consecutive weeks to participate in the program; no exceptions.

You must be 14 years old by June 22, 2026, and have completed 8th grade to apply. If you turn 14 later in the summer (prior to August 3), please let us know in the application. You may be considered for a later session.

Before Summer Programs start, there will be a mandatory training session for all CITs to prepare for camp.

CITs will receive Student Service Learning (SSL) hours based on the number of hours worked during the summer, including the training session. SSL hours are subject to the CIT Program Coordinator's discretion.

If accepted into the program, the CIT must provide further documentation indicating they are in good standing with their current school. If required documentation does not display desired outcomes, CIT's acceptance may be forfeited.

CIT must complete their two-week commitment, or SSL hours will be forfeited.

The Gaithersburg Library is looking for volunteers for our 2025-2026 Teen Advisory Board (TAB)!

TAB plays an essential role in shaping library programs and spaces. Through discussion helping to make sure that the library is providing what our community needs. The Gaithersburg Library TAB meets monthly throughout the school year on the last Thursday of each month from 5 PM to 6 PM, unless otherwise noted.

As a member of the Teen Advisory Board you will:
