Volunteer with us on Sunday, August 9, 2026 as we welcome families, vendors, performers, and more to Campus. Unlike previous years, we'll be opening newly built venues to the public for the first time, and we'd love for you to be part of the excitement. The event - from 11:30am - 5:00pm - will consist of:

- A Ribbon-cutting ceremony.

- Dance and vocal performances.

- Children's activities and drama workshops.

- Vendors.

Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Maria for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday in Rock Creek Stream Valley Unit 6. We will focus on non-native, invasive vines, especially wisteria (Wisteria floribunda). Native vines, including native grape, are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.

We will meet in Rock Creek Stream Valley Unit 6, at the Parklawn Community Garden (12718 Veirs Mill Road, Rockville). Instructions will be sent after you register.

Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, tall socks, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Gardening-type gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink.

Each volunteer must register directly with Montgomery Parks with their own account.

This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers must be 16 years or older to join this event.

Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Kathryn for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday in Sligo Creek Stream Valley Unit 4 (between Forest Glen Road and University Blvd in Silver Spring). More details, including the exact meeting location, will be emailed to all pre-registrants.

We will focus on non-native, invasive vines and shrubs, including porcelain berry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei), English ivy (Hedera helix), Japanese barberry (Berberisthunbergii), and bush honeysuckle (mainly Lonicera maackii). Native Virginia creeper and poison ivy are also present and beneficial, so we will avoid those.

Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, tall socks, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Jill and Weed Warrior Fred for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday in Rachel Carson Conservation Park in Olney, MD. Meet in the main parking lot at 22201 Zion Road at 9:50 am. Please note, there are no restroom facilities at this park. We will cancel for heavy rain or high winds; pre-registrants will be notified.

We will work in the forested area and focus on non-native, invasive vines and shrubs, including porcelainberry (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata), wintercreeper (Euonymus fortunei), English ivy (Hedera helix), roundleaf bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus), winged burning bush (Euonymus alatus), and bush honeysuckle (mainly Lonicera maackii).

Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, tall socks, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Join us to create super hero masks, hats, and other kid-friendly costume give-aways. Everything you create will be used to help children escape into the world of "make believe" during Only Make Believe's interactive performances in hospitals, care-facilities, and schools dedicated to serving children with disabilities. No art degree required!

Volunteers under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Please no volunteers under 10.

Join us as more than two hundred children and adult athletes supported by CSS show off their skills that they have been practicing all year!

We welcome you to volunteer with us at Georgetown Prep as we celebrate the hard work and dedication of the individuals we support. Cheer on our athletes and enjoy a day of friends, family and fun!

Volunteers are needed from 9am to 3pm to set up and assist with this event. Help make this an unforgettable day!

The National Foundation for Cancer Research is volunteering in the locker storage area at this year’s Citi Open, taking place between Saturday, July 25 - Sunday, August 2. The event is at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in DC and volunteers can park on-site at the venue.

We can provide SSL or community service hours as needed.

Volunteers can sign up for single shifts or multiple shifts. We need volunteers at various times, depending on the day, starting as early as 8am and ending as late as 11pm.  Please see the schedule for exact times.

Volunteers will assist in distributing boxes of food, including fruit, vegetables and canned goods, to low-income senior citizens at AHC's Charter House, an affordable housing apartment building located in Silver Spring. Volunteers will bring food inside building to 2nd floor lobby using carts & elevators. Residents will pick up food boxes.

Volunteers should be friendly and reliable, able to work both independently and in a small group. Food boxes weigh between 20-40 pounds, so volunteers must be able to lift that amount onto tables & carts.

The National Foundation for Cancer Research has partnered with the Frederick Keys on a Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark on Friday, July 10th at Nymeo Field at Harry Grove Stadium. As part of NFCR's Play4TheCure campaign, we will be sharing information about the organization and our programs, selling raffle tickets for the 50/50 raffle, selling Play4TheCure merchandise, and hosting a prize wheel.

This is part of a themed jersey night at the stadium, with "Washington Capitals-themed" jerseys worn by the Frederick team that night and auctioned off to raise funds for NFCR.

We are seeking volunteers to help us in a variety of ways to raise awareness and funds for the Foundation.

Volunteer with older adults and other high school students to discuss favorite graphic novels at the Intergenerational Graphic Novel Book Club at the Gaithersburg Public Library with Link Generations, Asbury Methodist Village, and Gaithersburg Beloved Community Initiative. Meetings are Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pm: New Dates Announced for Fall: Sept. 15, Oct. 27, Nov. 17, and Dec. 15. BlackRock Center for the Arts strives to bring inspiring performances and visual art experiences to a diverse audience in the Germantown area. Our volunteers are a major part of bringing this mission to life! Opening Minds through Art 

Student volunteers are invited to join us for Opening Minds Through Art (OMA), 

an award-winning, failure-free, evidence-based intergenerational art program. 

OMA provides older adults with early-stage memory loss opportunities for 

creative self-expression and social engagement. 

Volunteers are matched with participants to provide support as they create 

abstract artwork that engage their minds and break through cognitive barriers. 

Volunteers must attend the orientation, all art sessions, and the art show.

A guided, nature-based art experience focused on exploration and fun

For SSL hours, join us in setting up and facilitating a free, calm, welcoming workshop that uses nature-inspired artmaking to create space for connection, conversation, and shared presence. You will help to experiment, combine materials, and follow curiosity rather than instructions. Assist them in discovering native plants and animals, rain gardens, or neighborhood green spaces, and create unique line drawings. Premade coloring pages will also be available for attendees who do not want to paint on canvas.

You will be working with adults for this volunteer opportunity since this workshop will be geared towards adults aged 18+.

For students looking to earn SSL hours, you will be supporting the workshop facilitators in setting up, leading, and post-workshop cleaning.

INFO SERVICES: Responsibilities include answering any questions attendees have, providing directions, explaining the programming schedule, handing out water, roaming the con as mobile information and promoting events.

MERCHANDISE BOOTH: Responsibilities include processing merchandise payments for attendees, packing/unpacking goods, keeping track of transactions, and promoting sales.

IT: Responsibilities include setting up any audio/visual equipment, managing equipment during events, and troubleshooting technical issues.

Students intending to earn SSL hours will be under the primary supervision of the Volunteer Director, and secondary supervision of the Department Heads. Volunteers must be able to take directions, work in teams and/or independently, fulfill all responsibilities of the department assigned, and be prepared for an active shift.

Middle and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by reviewing, finalizing, and creating content for our social media platforms, including TikTok ,Instagram and Facebook.

SSL Hour Equivalency:

-          Volunteers creating videos will receive SSL hours based on the actual amount of time spent producing the video, upon review and approval by Grace Helping Hands.

-          Volunteers reviewing videos will receive 1 SSL hour for every three (3) social media content pieces reviewed and finalized (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook posts), upon review and approval by Grace Helping Hands.

-          All submitted work must meet Grace Helping Hands content standards and receive approval before SSL hours are awarded.

- Titles and descriptions.

You can earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours for each hour you volunteer. This is a great opportunity to give back to the community while fulfilling your service requirements.

This Student Service Learning (SSL) opportunity is approved for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) middle and high school students.

Students can earn SSL hours by creating handwritten encouragement cards for unhoused women and children served by Grace Helping Hands.

SSL Hour Credit (MCPS Approved)

30 encouragement cards = 1 SSL hour

• Students may earn up to 3 SSL hours per day during the school year

• Students may earn up to 6 SSL hours per day during holidays and school breaks

Guidelines:

• Messages must be kind, supportive, and appropriate for all audiences

• Do not include last names, phone numbers, email addresses, or social media handles

Submission & Verification Process

4. Drop off or mail the physical cards as instructed

Kit Assembly Details:
We will be assembling toiletry kits on a monthly basis, providing an ongoing opportunity for volunteers to contribute to our cause. Each kit includes carefully selected items such as soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and other personal care essentials.

We will be assembling toiletry kits at local libraries, all kit making sites will be at public space on specific dates.

Volunteers will participate in a writing campaign to raise awareness and request support from local legislators, businesses, and manufacturers. Students will draft emails to local congresspersons, stores, vendors, and manufacturers, urging them to support Grace Helping Hands by donating products or funding.

Are you ready for a leadership journey like no other? DC's Honeycomb Leadership Corps (HLC) is now accepting applications! This year-long program invites high school students AND their parents to step into leadership roles and volunteer side-by-side, making a lasting impact in their communities. As part of HLC, you’ll commit to a year of service with Honeycomb and play an active role in supporting our programs. Parents and teens volunteer monthly together, assisting Project Leaders in running all aspects of our programs in the field (just like a camp counselor or teacher's assistant!) You'll help with everything from setting up supplies to teaching activities to fellow volunteers and mentoring younger kids. Your family will make no-sew blankets, handmade board books, and activity worksheets to donate to Children’s National Hospital. Hospital stays can be stressful and overwhelming for children. By creating comfort items and fun activities, your work at this project helps take a child’s mind away from the pain and stress of staying in a hospital in order to make for a better recovery.

Roll up your sleeves! Join us at The Well at Oxon Run to help revive and maintain a community garden that provides fresh produce for the community to promote wellness and healthy living. Your family will learn how The Well builds community and supports wellness through food. Our tasks change seasonally, but often include planting, weeding, harvesting food, and other garden maintenance. Your work at this project helps support the garden’s harvest and maintain a welcoming place for the community.

TLC's exciting summer small therapeutic group programs are in search of fun, creative, and energetic volunteers. You will help our participants have a summer of fun in a variety of ways. There are exciting weekly themes, arts and crafts, yoga, music and drama and outdoor water activities on any given week. You'll engage with young children regularly and assist them in building social skills, physical strength, and improving their communication. Fun and learning are all in a day's play. Come be a part of your community and have a fantastic time this summer. We welcome volunteers who are age 16 and over. Programs run for 7 weeks. All ushers must be 16 years of age in order to volunteer usher. NO EXCEPTIONS. Once you have registered for a date and time, you will receive a confirmation email from the MCVC website as well as from Imagination Stage. All volunteers will get credit for the hours worked, this includes arrival time to dismissal. If you are late arriving, you will receive credit for the time you arrived. You must sign in with the front desk upon arrival and sign out upon dismissal.  Your point of contact will be the Lead House Manager on duty or the Guest Experience Coordinator. MusicAid (https://www.musicaid.us/home) is a student-led organization. As proud SSL partners with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland.

We are a National 501(c)(3) non-profit and tax-exempt organization. MusicAid is one of the certifying organizations participating in the President’s Volunteer Service Award program.

Founded in July 2023, MusicAid has organized and contributed to 100+concerts by the middle of 2026, involving 1.8k+ cumulative attendees and more than 600 unique student musicians. These include performances at 7 senior homes, NIH Atrium, Children's National Hospital in D.C. We also provided More than 30 free piano accompaniments to musicians who couldn't afford the fee. We're looking forward to hosting more concerts in the future.

MusicAid is proud to be recognized by the Montgomery County Board of Education. The certificate states: “In recognition of your outstanding dedication to expanding musical opportunities for students and enriching our communities through education, service, and performances.” Signed by Julie Yang, President of the Board of Education on December 6, 2025, highlighting MusicAid’s impact in the community.

We are actively recruiting talented musicians from K-12 to join our mission. International Education and Civic Engagement Organization, Inc. (IECEO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving students, immigrants, newcomers, and families in Montgomery County. ArtUnity Youth hosts an ongoing, supervised in-person service program where students create encouragement cards for hospital patients. Volunteers design hospital-appropriate cards, write supportive messages, and help package donations for healthcare partners. Each month features a different positive theme to guide the artwork, cards, and supportive messages: January: A Fresh Start, February: Sending Love and Kindness, March: You Are Not Alone, April: Hope and Strength, May: One Day at a Time, June: Bright Days Ahead, July: Courage in Every Step, August: Keep Going, September: Small Steps, Big Hope, October: You Are Stronger Than You Know, November: Grateful for You, and December: Warm Wishes and Brighter Days.

Please feel free to bring friends or younger students who would like to learn art! During the summer, ArtUnity Youth will also offer free art classes for kids, where students will teach children drawing skills and help them explore creativity through fun art activities.

No prior art experience or special skills are needed. We will teach you what to do at each session, and then you can help create cards, support younger students, and assist with art activities.

All art supplies will be provided. Students only need to come ready to learn, create, and help. 

Sessions are held on Fridays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM in the Collaboration Room on the second floor at Rockville Memorial Library. Students may attend for 1–2 hours within this time window, and registration is required. When you arrive, please look for a BIG Teddy Bear wearing an ArtUnity Youth T-shirt.

Parking is available in Garage B, with free parking for up to 90 minutes. Multiple entries are allowed.

Students earn 1 SSL hour per 60 minutes of verified participation, with a maximum of 2 hours per session, based on supervisor attendance. Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Many animals feel overwhelmed in a shelter, while others need extra enrichment to stay happy and healthy. Your work at this project helps animals feel safe, supported, and ready for their forever homes.

Brighten someone's day with a handmade card! Volunteers design and create handwritten cards that we deliver to people who need a little encouragement — patients, seniors, veterans, and first responders. Every card you make goes directly to someone in our community. Make 15 cards to earn 1 SSL hour. You're welcome to make as many sets as you'd like.

What materials or supplies do I need? You can use any supplies you have at home! Cardstock, printer paper, crayons, pens, paints, markers, or design digitally and print — whatever you've got. Feel free to be creative!

Do the cards have to be a specific size? Typically we receive cards about 5 x 7 inches, folded in half. Please put all cards in one envelope or bag, and group/label them together by the type of card (for example, "Get Well" or "Thank You").

How should I sign the cards? Do not give any personal information in the cards — this is for your safety. You can keep it anonymous, or write: "[Your first name], Arts-n-STEM4Hearts Foundation Volunteer."

Can you help with what to write inside? Of course! Here are a few starters — and feel free to research other appropriate card-message ideas too.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home.

Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Participants have told us that they can hear the trees thanking them. It's an opportunity to be outside and make a difference for the environment. The activity is open to everyone. Training is on site.

Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 7:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control. (Double Hours are available for individuals participating in the Maryland Community Service Program when volunteering for the Traffic Volunteer position.) (THE DOUBLE IS NOT FOR SSL)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

*To reach our warehouse, type "4924 Wyaconda Rd, North Bethesda, MD" into your GPS. This will take you directly to the entrance of the parking lot. After you pull into the lot, please look for the yellow parking spots immediately to your right. You can park in any of the yellow parking spots in the lot. Parking is not permitted in front of Dogtopia and against the fence. To find our warehouse entrance, look for signs for "Dogtopia" and then keep walking; our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. When you arrive please walk to the outdoor tables and ask for a staff person, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. How to prepare: Volunteers should arrive wearing closed-toed shoes and clothing they can move around in and get dirty. Please note that the heating in our warehouse is currently out of service, so please dress warmly, wearing layers and coats for your shift.
