Dear participants, parent(s)/guardian(s),
You and/or your child or children are invited to participate in the Performing Arts Community Showcase hosted by Shu Ren Education Corporation (SREC), in association with Montgomery College, the Department of Nursing, Chinese Christian Church of Germantown (CCCG), and Chinese American School at Rockville Campus.
During the pandemic of COVID-19, SREC, as a non-profit organization successfully hosted two virtual talent shows, We Are The World 2020 and 2021 supported by local schools, institutions and church. Please review the events and the final compilation videos on the website http://www.shureneducation.org/. As COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in March of 2022, SREC is moving the virtual talent show to a live format: Performing Arts Community Showcase in summer 2022. While continuously expending their partnership with local schools, organizations and institutions, SREC not only provides an international platform to those who enjoy performing arts but also supports and enriches the community in a larger area. Moving forward, SREC will host two showcases. The first is scheduled for August 6th 2022 at the WorldShine Medical Adult Day Care Center (WSMADCC) 阳光保健养生中心in Germantown. A second will be held on January 28th 2023 at Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, one of the top 10 most popular retirement living facilities in Montgomery County.
SREC expresses its vision as the following: with the nature of art, Shu Ren Education Corporation will be the model of art performance and student success in the community. The Performing Arts Community Showcase is part of this mission to bring joy through art performances to seniors in a variety of different locations and formats while promoting student success.
SREC Performing Arts Community Showcase
To prepare for the live showcase in the community, SREC will hold one audition and two rehearsals at WSMADCC – 阳光保健养生中心located at 20420 Century Blvd., Germantown, MD 20874. Please see details below:
- Audition Date: 6/18/2022, Saturday 1:30pm-3:30pm, registration deadline 6/14/22
- Rehearsal Day One: 7/23/2022, Saturday, 1:30pm-3:30pm
- Rehearsal Day Two: 7/30/2022, Saturday, 1:30pm-3:30pm
The Performing Arts Community Showcase at WSMADCC – 阳光保健养生中心will be held on 8/6/2022, Saturday at 10am. Please see the table of the events with location and registration info attached to this invitation letter.
The audition registration is open to 3-19 –year-olds solo or group participants, and Montgomery College students. To prepare for the audition, please see the audition talent show rubric 2022 included in the registration form. If you or your child (ren) are the top 16 winners from the virtual talent show 2021 and 2022 hosted by SREC, they will receive additional 1 point added to the total points they obtain from the audition. The top fifteen participants may be invited to attend the final showcase at WSMADCC depending on the categories of the acts. All rehearsals are mandatory to those who will attend the Performing Arts Community Showcase. Based on their performance at WSMADCCon 8/6/2022 , they may then be invited to attend the showcase in the new year of 2023 at Asbury Methodist Village on Jan 28th.
Students Service Learning (SSL) hours will be provided by SREC following the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) SSL hours guidelines. Please note that students can only earn SSL hours for the time spent performing for a community in need -- auditioning or rehearsing for the performance is not included in SSL hours per MCPS SSL guidelines.

- Audition fee: $ 10/participant/act, maximum 2 different acts per participant due to limited resources.
- Rehearsal fee: $20/participant. If your child (ren) are selected to attend the showcase at WSMADCC on 8/6/2022, you are expected to pay for the registration for rehearsals by 7/30/22. No need to pay for rehearsal at this point. The information related to the rehearsal and showcase at WSMADCC will be sent out via an email later.
- Submit the payment with the registration form by PayPal: 2020virtualtalentshow@gmail.com or pay by check payable to Shu Ren Education. Mail the check to 18032 Red Rocks Dr. Germantown 20874 MD.
SREC Pre-Audition Practice
In addition to the formal audition for the showcase, SREC and CCCG will provide a pre-audition practice opportunity for those who wish to perform in front of an audience. The pre-audition practice will be held on June 12, 2022 from 6pm to 8pm on CCCG property, at 15915 Germantown Rd Germantown, MD 20874 Rd Germantown. Pizza and a light beverage will be provided with purchase. Please feel free to invite your family and friends to enjoy the performances, greet and meet new friends. Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
