The nonprofit organization Science is Elemental is seeking one or two students willing to assist at a Science of Soccer booth at the Tridelphia Ridge ES this Saturday, Nov 16 during their STEAM day event run by their PTA. https://www.trespta.com/. The event runs from 11-2, but we will need to be there to set up at 10:30 am, and will therefore the assistant will need to be ready to leave for TRES at about 9:45 in the morning. The goal of this event is to allow kids to employ experimentation regarding various aspects of playing soccer to both improve their play, and understand the principles of experimentation. We will also be exploring key scientific concepts such as power, force, velocity, acceleration, and vectors. While science interest and knowledge is a plus, it is not a requirement. Interest and ability in soccer is a strong plus. No equipment is needed. We will be kicking soccer balls, but not having kids at the event or the student assistant engage in competitive play.
The assistant(s) will be awarded 1 SSL per hour, starting from when they leave home to get to TRSS, until they arrive back at home, and will need to remain the entire time (11-2) at TRES. Science is Elemental can provide transportation in a personal vehicle if necessary, and permission to ride in the executive director's car will be included in the permission slip attached to this opportunity.
This is an in-person opportunity.
Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
