The Montgomery County Comic & Cosplay Club, a 501c7 membership organization, holds its annual meeting, RisuCon, where members meet and enjoy cosplay, vendors, anime screenings, industry guests, panels, contests, and more. As part of our charitable work, community members with a disability are invited to attend RisuCon, explore the event, and meet with our superheroes.
We are seeking an Accessibility Manager to identify organizations and individual members in Montgomery County that can be invited to take part in this program.
We are also open to considering a small team of adults who wish to work together on this task. You will develop a plan for review by leadership. Mentoring and coaching in organizational and communication skills will be provided by leadership.
This is mostly a remote position, making contact with groups and individuals, setting expectations, creating a guest list of invitees who have RSVP's their attendance, etc.
The weekend of the meeting, the Accessibility Manager will be on site to direct the operations for invited attendees. We expect the Accessibility Manager to devote around 2 hours per week for the next 5 months to this project. However, depending on your plan, this could increase or decrease some weeks.
RisuCon runs from 11am to 6pm on Saturday August 17 and 10am to 5pm on Sunday August 18. The applicant for this volunteer position must be able to devote a minimum of 2 hours per week for the next 5 months as well as being on-site the weekend of the event itself.
We encourage adult volunteers who have an interest/path in service for disabled persons to apply. After the initial email, we will ask you to answer a series of questions asking why this service learning opportunity interests you and how it fits into your current academic path. Only one candidate (or team) will be chosen from those that complete the questionnaire.
