The Spring 2026 Design+Build program is an application-only hands-on learning opportunity for teens in Montgomery County. The program will focus on creating a conservation landscape for the parking lot at
BlackRock Center for the Arts. Teens will spend five Saturdays (February 21, 28, and March 7, 14, and 21, from 1–4 pm) designing and installing the project to help improve the Seneca Creek watershed.
Students will learn design skills, work as a team, and make a visible impact in their community. Participants can also earn up to 20+ hours of Montgomery County Student Service Learning (SSL) credit through this program.
You can apply as an individual or in a group with friends. No design or building experience is required; just bring your interest and ideas.
Open to:
- Teens, ages 13-19, in Montgomery County, especially those in Germantown and Upcounty Montgomery County
- Students curious about art, nature, design, or their community
- No experience required, just ideas and positive vibes.
- Need-based transportation support is available.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
