Fresh CORE: Shower Services for the Homeless
Description: We are looking for enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to assist with our showers service program for clients experiencing homelessness. This opportunity involves helping clients access essential hygiene supplies and guiding them through our shower facilities. Volunteers will be stationed at various points to ensure a smooth and respectful experience for all clients.
Location: BlackRock Center For The Arts - 12901 Town Commons Dr, Germantown MD 20874
Age Restrictions: Minors under 16 years of age can not participate without a parent or guardian present.
Student Service Learning Hours: Students are able to earn SSL hours for this shift.
Program Assistance Needs are as follows, (6 PAs per Shift):
Client Sign-in: Check clients in and direct them to the waiting area.
Supply Pick-Up: Distribute hygiene kits that include towels, washcloths, soap bars, shower flip flops, and socks to clients.
Client Guide (Outside): Welcome clients and direct them to the appropriate stations.
Client Guide (Inside): Assist clients within the facility, answer questions, direct clients to the refreshments table and provide support.
Timer: Monitor and manage time slots for shower and dressing room use to ensure all clients have fair access.
Supply Collector: Gather and organize supplies after use.
Marketing/ Flyers: Hang flyers all over the county.
How to Prepare:
All volunteers must complete a volunteer application on the CORE website. https://thecorefoundation.co/volunteer-application/
Volunteers are required to wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the weather and a family-friendly environment.
Please arrive 15 minutes early for a brief orientation before the start of your shift.
