Description

We are looking for a volunteer who is interested in holding weekly,  biweekly or monthly classes to teach chess.  This woudl be via our business zoom account or another online program.  Attendees are members of our senior village who have no, or limited, experience, and we expect a small group of 4 - 8. The classes would go slowly and you would decide how often or how many you could provide.

We are looking for volunteers who are experienced players and tutors or teachers and can independently  prepare the presentation and lead the class.  Students are welcome to apply as well as adults but need to be able to effectively teach to the group and answer questions that come up during the presentation. Ideally you have experience doing such presentations before, or tutoring, or working with seniors.

Applicants MUST email director@bmavillage.org with interest and background per the above qualifications.  If you only click the "respond" button and do not email the above, you will not be considered.

Feel free to reach out with any questions and please check out www.bmavillage.org to learn more about us - we help seniors age in place in their homes and increase connection with their community. 240-630-2628

For students seeking SSL hours - the number of hours given depends on the preparation time and the number of classes you hold. BMAV staff will provide direct supervision the entire session(s). The session will not be recorded. Students may share screen and upload presentations that do not include images of themselves. Students are to connect to the zoom session using their personal/private accounts, not their MCPS student accounts. Before participating, a parent permission slip will need to be signed.

The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home until schools resume normal status.
