The Button Farm seeks volunteers throughout the summer of 2020. Opportunities include administrative assistance, gardening, animal care, general site maintenance and support for open house events. On pre-scheduled Volunteer Days tasks are assigned day-of and upon your arrival. Activities are good for individuals and small groups.
Due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19 we are currently restricting the size and number of volunteers based on guidelines set forth in the State of Maryland’s COVID-19 Plan. While social distancing and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) measures will be in place for all activities, most tasks will be performed outdoors on our 40-acre farm and allow for fresh air, exercise and separation from other volunteers on site. If you are an individual or a group, please contact us for further details.
The Button Farm Living History Center is set on 40-pristine acres inside Seneca Creek State Park, and is Maryland's only living history center depicting 19th century slave plantation life and the inspirational story of the Underground Railroad. Our site features a Civil War-era Barn, Historic Outbuildings, Livestock Pens, Museum Garden, and Slave Cemetery.
