About CASA’s Citizenship Clinics
Our team, together with dozens of community volunteers, helps more than 1,000 people on the path to U.S. Citizenship every year through this program.
In addition to our regular business hours, we provide weekend services at our monthly Citizenship Clinics. We count on volunteers like you to help us manage the flow of 40-60 applicants or more! Locations vary: we have offices in Hyattsville, Rockville, and Baltimore that regularly host events. We occasionally hold clinics at various other locations in Northern Virginia, DC, and Maryland. Our clinics are generally held on Saturdays, beginning at 9:30AM, with a mandatory 8:30am training session for new volunteers. Please expect to be at the clinic until about 3:00PM (or about 6 hours).
All volunteers are required to watch a one-hour training video* online and attend a training the day of the clinic. You will be helping an immigrant to complete the 20-page application for U.S. Citizenship, so it is mandatory that everyone watch the pre-clinic training. Each volunteer may complete 1 or 2 applications in a day, sometimes more. Any volunteer is welcome to attend just once, or you may want to return month after month. You must register your attendance at the link above before each event.
Requirements for Volunteers for Citizenship Applications*:
-Volunteers must be 18 years old, or accompanied by a parent or guardian.
-Volunteers must be fluent in English. (Fluency in another language, particularly Spanish, is helpful, though not required.)
-Watch an on-line training video before the event & attend training in person on the day of the event**.
-Good handwriting. (We usually complete the applications by hand.)
*If you do not meet any one of these requirements, you may still be able to help with other tasks at the event. Please contact us directly to let us know about your interest and how you might like to help out.
**If you cannot do one of these things, please contact us to see if we can work out alternative training arrangements.
