Description

Do you enjoy bringing computers back to life? The KindWorks' Digital Empowerment Program is seeking one or two technically skilled volunteers to join our small (but mighty!) team to help refurbish donated laptops that we give, free of charge, to local residents who lack access to technology. Through partnerships with more than 70 nonprofit, educational, workforce development, refugee resettlement, and community organizations, KindWorks has already placed more than 2,500 devices into the hands of students, job seekers, families, newcomers, and others working to build better futures.

We're looking for volunteers who can work independently, and are comfortable updating operating systems, replacing SSDs and batteries, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and extending the life of retired Windows and Mac laptops—including converting compatible devices to Linux when appropriate. You don't need to know every platform or every solution; if you're technically curious, enjoy solving problems, and can figure things out, you'll fit right in.

Refurbishing is done from the comfort of your own home, on your own schedule, with support from an experienced team of volunteer refurbishers. We also gather for quarterly team meetings to share ideas, solve challenges, and connect with one another.

Every laptop our refurbishers restore becomes someone's classroom, job search tool, connection to healthcare, or pathway to new opportunities. If you'd like to use your technical skills to make a tangible difference in your community, we'd love to talk with you further about potentially joining our team.

Interested? Please email Megan.columbus@dokindworks.org with a summary of your experience and interest.
