Let’s bring back the lost art of handwritten letters and write some lovely notes to families receiving food and COVID care packages provided by Montgomery County Food Hubs!
PROJECT DIRECTIONS
- Respond to this opportunity;
- Click here to view and print letter templates to color and write a message – or design your own!
- Tip: If the design on a selected template covers the whole page, feel free to write your message on the back of the page!
- You can send your letters in 2 ways:
- Drop off your completed letters to the Montgomery County Volunteer Center (12900 Middlebrook Road, Suite 1600, Germantown, MD 20874) between January 18 - January 24 from 9 AM – 8 PM. This is a contactless drop-off system - please follow signage onsite for drop-off instructions.
- Mail them to the Volunteer Center - if you would like to mail them, please email us at servicedays@montgomerycountymd.gov for the drop-off form. You will mail your letters and the drop-off form in 1 envelope and ship via USPS only, postmarked by January 25 (packages or mail shipped via other carriers will not reach the Volunteer Center at this time)
Tips for writing your letters:
- Keep Messages Positive
- Suggested topics include: sharing hopeful messages, well wishes, and positive thoughts
- Prayers are welcome, but please avoid excessive religious comments
- Share information about yourself, like hobbies, pets, travel, interests, etc.
- If interested, you may include your first name and age, but not other personal contact information
- Please refrain from including language around politics, violence, foul language, and other controversial topics
SSL: MCPS students will receive 30 minutes of SSL credit for completing and returning 3 letters (they must submit all 3 for credit). Students may not exceed submission of 15 letters (or 2.5 SSL hours) and they must be completed in increments of 3 (i.e., 3 letters = 30 minutes, 6 letters = 1 hour, 9 letters = 1.5 hours, 12 letters = 2 hours, or 15 letters = 2.5 hours).
When you drop off your project, all volunteers will be required to fill out a sheet with your name, email address, and a checkbox to indicate if you are requesting SSL hours. If you are requesting SSL hours, a signed form with your hours will be emailed to the email address listed on the drop-off sheet.
By responding to this opportunity, you are pledging to continue to complete acts of service in the spirit of Dr. King.
