Save the trees and protect the Rock Creek watershed
Join Weed Warrior Supervisor Barbara for a non-native, invasive plant removal workday in Elmhirst Parkway Neighborhood Conservation Area in Bethesda, MD. We will meet at the Cedar Lane & Elmhirst Parkway intersection (lat long: 39.00826536988436, -77.09451908163842).
We will focus on English ivy (Hedera helix) and porcelainberry vines (Ampelopsis glandulosa var. brevipedunculata) that are growing in the trees. We will also work on wineberry (Rubus phoenicolasius) and bush honeysuckle (Lonicera spp.).
Please wear long pants that cover your ankles, long sleeves, and sturdy, closed-toed shoes. Bring gloves, pruners, small folding hand saws and/or loppers if you have them. Gloves and tools are available to borrow if you don’t have your own. No power tools or machetes allowed. Please bring water to drink. Please note: Court Ordered Volunteer Hours can’t be granted through this workday.
This event is capped at 10 people.
This workday is pre-approved for MCPS SSL hours. Volunteers under 16 are not permitted to use sharp tools, so if you are under 16, you’ll help rip wineberry out of the ground and make debris piles.
Volunteers 14 and under must be accompanied by a registered, responsible adult.
