So What Else’s Olympiad program is designed to promote healthy activity and exercise in youth. The program provides youth access to fun fitness activities, in Olympic competition form, that keep them moving and engaged in physical activity for 50 minutes. The Olympics are a celebration of friendship, unity, and peace. The five interlaced rings of the Olympics represent the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes worldwide.
Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing stations, assisting with line control for supplies and food, breaking down stations, cleaning up, and more.
These activities consist of team games, challenges, and individual events. On the day of the event, youth participants will be divided into groups that choose a country to represent in the competitions. The groups remain together for the remainder of the event. This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 15.
Shift 1: 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Shift 2: 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM
We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.
*To get to our distribution site for your shift, type "1500 Anacostia Dr, Washington, DC 20020" into your GPS. This will take you to the main parking lot next to the Roller Skating Park pavilion. You can park anywhere in the parking lot. After you park, walk towards the pavilion, find a member of our team, and let them know you are there to volunteer for the So What Else Summer Olympics.*
