Thank you for volunteering with the UpCounty Hub! 

The UpCounty Hub provides fresh produce, shelf stable foods, hygiene items, and some social services for the families that we serve in our community. 

Drivers are needed on Thursdays to deliver food packages to the doorstep of vulnerable Upcounty families, that are not able to drive to one of our weekly distribution sites. Drivers should be able to lift up to 25 lbs.  Addresses of clients will be provided upon arrival at the Hub on delivery day. You will be delivering food directly to clients. 

Please arrive at the UpCounty Hub between 10:45am-11:00am on Thursday and pull around to the right side of the building to the loading dock. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAP SPOTS!  If possible please try to register for this shift by the Tuesday before so we can assign boxes to the correct number of cars.

Join the City of Takoma Park in volunteering for the City's Earth Day Event! This popular annual event is held rain or shine and will take place this year on Sunday, April 12th, 2026. Volunteers are needed to support a number of activities, including set-up, breakdown, partner outreach booth support, children's activities support, bike activities support, EV showcase support, and more. This event will be held in 2 location nodes; the Sligo Creek Stream Valley Park and the Takoma Park Silver Spring Co-op. All volunteers will be requested to attend a mandatory in-person training at the City's Public Work Office ahead of the event, where node location and activities will be assigned. The trainings will be held on:

Please note the following guidelines for student service through live virtual platforms:

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

CCACC Academy is looking for volunteers to assist with our Summer Camp in 2026. Through this program, student volunteers can earn SSL hours and gain valuable experience supporting their local community.

Volunteers will be responsible for check-in/check-out, helping move students between activities, and assisting with program logistics. The camp will run from 9 am to 6 pm, and volunteers can select a shift time and the weeks that work best for them.

The Summer Camp will take place over ten weeks:

Our volunteers help prepare fresh, healthy, and delicious meals in our Takoma Park kitchen for our homebound neighbors. Join our volunteer team as we continue to build a strong, interconnected and compassionate community to serve our clients.

Each weekday, Meals on Wheels of Takoma Park and Silver Spring prepares two nourishing meals for hundreds of clients; our service helps them maintain their health and independence as they age, battle illness and recover from injuries. Demand for the service is rising and we're growing fast to meet the need.

Kitchen volunteers can choose a morning or midday shift to prep and pack deli meals and hot meals or prepare ingredients for the next day's meal and do cleanup.

Opportunities are suitable for students aged 14 and older. Summertime and other shorter school holidays would be a great time join us. We are open on some public holidays.

Inflatables Set-Up & Take-Down Volunteer

Olney Days – Party in the Park

     Party in the Park is a beloved Olney Days tradition that brings the entire community together to celebrate the town. This year, eight large inflatables will transform the ball field at Olney Manor Park into a hub of fun — and we need strong, dependable volunteers to help make it happen. Volunteers will assist with setting up and taking down the inflatables under the direction of professional staff from the inflatable company.

     Responsibilities include:

     Because take-down is much easier when you understand how everything was assembled, volunteers are strongly encouraged to sign up for both shifts if possible (but not required). After confirmation of your sign up, Volunteers will communicate and report to Carter Darrington, owner of Empire Inflatables that is providing the equipment.

     Please note: Inflatables are weather-dependent. If rain causes the field to close, this volunteer opportunity will be canceled. In that case, volunteers will be notified by email by 9:00 am on May 2.

Volunteers provide escorted transportation to medical appointments or offer grocery shopping assistance to seniors. Volunteers use an online scheduling system that allows you to set your own schedules. Training and liability coverage are provided.

Volunteers enjoy meeting senior neighbors and they love the flexibility of using the online scheduling system! This is a great opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, including your own!

WE TRAIN YOU – You will learn everything you need to know to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician – no expense to you. Volunteering with Fire/Rescue is rewarding and offers the flexibility to contribute according to your availability. Membership is dependent upon successful completion of a fingerprint, background check and medical exam - all provided free.

We are looking for a talented team of High School and Middle School Students to develop projects which will help those who have impairment and medical needs. 

We are looking for a talented team to met to develop projects which will help those who have impairment and medical needs. Project concepts can cover the full range of available options to incorporate skill in 3d printing, robotics, design, programming, medical and nursing care and other areas to serve the practical needs of those with disabilities or medical needs in our community.

It would be helpful to have volunteers remain active with the meetings throughout the 2025/2026 school year as it would help with the continuity of the development of the projects.

We are planning to meet weekly at Rockville Public Library or Potomac Public Library.  Participants should have an interest in helping others and some experience in one or more of the areas mentioned above. The initial meetings will be about concepts and we will collectively work to design solutions. At that point we will work with the target community of individuals who are intended to benefit from the project to further refine and test the solution.

We will be meeting Tuesdays at 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm weekly at Rockville Public Library during the 2025/2026 school year.

Volunteer with Imagination Stage this summer. Teen volunteers will gain experience assisting professional teaching artists and learn what it takes to put on an Imagination Stage camp--from setting up the classroom space to modeling exemplary behavior and creating a positive creative atmosphere for campers. Teen volunteers are not required to commit for the full summer. Teen volunteers are selected to work on a "camp-by-camp" basis. Volunteers can commit from anywhere from 1-6 weeks with Imagination Stage The camp day typically lasts from 9:00-4:00. Half day options are also available. Fostering opportunities available for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens in the Montgomery County and Howard County areas (short-term and longer-term! CHARM Rescue provides all necessary supplies (crates, collars, leashes, toys, food, litter, etc.) and covers all medical care for our animals as well. You can help to save a life just by providing a temporary home, your time, and your love to get these animals started on their journeys to their forever homes!

Looking for volunteers to help with our fall basketball league. Volunteers will be working with the game clock, the game book and the concession stand. The seasons are ongoing in the fall, winter and spring. Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays in the Potomac, Rockville, Bethesda and Gaithersburg area. We have boys from 2nd grade to 10th and girls from 4th grade to 8th grade. We are looking fro volunteers aged 13-18. Games usually run from around 8am-7pm with volunteers coming at least 10 minutes before game time. No experience needed we will teach you everything you need to know. Lucky Dog Animal Rescue has an adoption event on Sunday March 15th at the Falls Church PetSmart.

Come spend the afternoon with a Lucky Dog! We need dog handlers to hold a dog's leash during our adoption event and talk up the dog to potential adopters during the event. We also need drivers to drive Lucky Dogs to and from our adoption event. Handler check-in is at 11:15 am (dog check in starts at 11:30 am). You should plan to stay until 3:30 pm.

We need bilingual volunteers to call back people needing help who only speak Spanish. For liability reasons, this opportunity is for volunteers aged 18 and over, and does not qualify for MCPS SSL hours.  

This is an occasional support role and does not require a serious time commitment. We have a volunteer assigned every day ("officer of the day" -  OD) to check our phone messages and call people back. Most of the messages are in English, but if there is a message in Spanish and the OD does not speak Spanish, they would send you an email or text with the time of call and phone number, and leave the message on our answering system for you. When you have the time - in the evening, or the next day - you would listen to the message and call the person back to find out what they need, and set them up for a food delivery from our food driver if they're in our area. It's understood that there are days you would not be available.

Join the litter cleanup at Twinbrook Park to take part in the Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup. It’s a fun, hands-on way to make a real difference close to home. All supplies will be provided, and students can earn SSL hours while helping protect our waterways. Space is limited and online registration for each volunteer is required. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. City staff will be present to greet volunteers in front of the Twinbrook Community Recreation Center. Please dress for the weather and wear sturdy, closed toed shoes.

The Rock Creek Conservation Corps (RC3) program provides high school students in Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC with a 6-week (June 29 to August 7) paid summer job in the conservation field. Students gain hands-on field experience, learn about environmental restoration efforts, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. Students learn about forest health, water quality, and stormwater management, and apply what they learn by participating in invasive plant removals, litter cleanups, and other related activities. Upon completion of the program, students have a wealth of knowledge and skills that they take with them in their next steps and gain a deeper connection to their community and Rock Creek.

As an RC3 member, you’ll work outdoors in Rock Creek and surrounding areas, helping to restore and protect this beautiful natural space. What is a Teen Advisory Board (TAB)? TAB is a group of library teen volunteers that helps the library and the community by implementing, promoting and advocating for youth services in Montgomery County. The Teen Advisory Board will provide feedback on programs, assist librarians with planning and running events and will be library advocates. Small Things Matter's Kokua Foods Program helps address food insecurity in our community.  

We are looking for volunteers to help us make cookies and other baked treats to share with food insecure families in our community that we serve. These baked treats are a nice way to provide a fun snack to go along with the other foods that we are providing for these families.  We would love to have individuals and groups supporting this effort.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by making baked goods until schools return to normal status.  20 cookies (2.5"-3" in diameter) or 20 regular size cupcakes or 1 baked dessert loaf (use an 8.5" X 4.5" X 2.5" pan) = 1 hour of service  (Please note that mini cookies, cupcakes, or breads will not count and that we are no longer looking for regular bread as we are now getting donations of sandwich & loaf bread from a local bakery.)

Instructions (Please note that your work must be submitted via a Google form): 

NOTE: Items should be baked fresh the day before.  Please do not make cookies ahead of time and refrigerate or freeze them.

-Please take photo of them being made and a group photo of the baked items once you've finished. 

-Cookies and muffins should be put into Ziplock bags in batches of 4 and loaves should be wrapped tightly in either Saran Wrap or a gallon size Ziplock bag. Please label them and note if nuts are present.  

-Make a log by writing down the number items made, and have your parent initial it.

Baked goods donations can be dropped off at the Bedford Station Apartments (1400 University Blvd E, Hyattsville, MD 20783) on the first and third Fridays of each month from 7:30am-8:30am.  To drop off please bring your baked goods in a box to the main office and leave it by the fence.  Please note: You cannot bring your donations to Bedford Station Apartments any other day or time than stated above.  It is a distribution site, not our office.  Thanks!

Join the Community Design Lab for a hands-on Volunteer Build Day as we bring our student-designed conservation garden to life at BlackRock Center for the Arts in Germantown. Small Things Matter's Crafting for Charity Program helps those in need with handmade items.  We are looking for volunteers to help us decorate bookmarks as part of our literacy program for underserved children.  We provide them with a choice of a brand new book and they also get to pick a handmade bookmark of their choice.  Encouraging a lifelong love of reading can help these children succeed in school and in life. We would love to have individuals and groups help us by decorating bookmarks.

Middle school and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by decorating bookmarks.

5 decorated bookmarks = 1 SSL hour of service.

-Purchase bookmarks from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Gionello-Blank-Cardstock-Bookmarks-Pre-Punched/dp/B0DK488PQC/.  Please note that you can also make your own bookmark blanks by purchasing cardstock and cutting them using a paper cutter to 6" x 2.5".  If you choose to make your own blanks make sure that they are cut well and look professional. Do not punch holes at the top of the bookmarks if you are making them.

-Please document your bookmark decorating by taking an action shot photo of them being made and a group shot of the finished items once you've finished decorating them!

-Decorate the bookmarks either by using markers, paints, etc.  Please do not glue any 3-D items or use stickers/washi tape. Please do not include anything religious in either written words or pictures.  Do NOT sign the bookmarks with your name, etc. Take a group shot of the finished items.

-Make a log by write down the number of bookmarks made, and have your parent date and initial it.

Spend a Saturday outdoors enjoying the fresh air, connecting with neighbors, and helping care for our planet. Participants will collect litter and recyclables along 1.5 miles Wightman Road. Students can earn SSL hours. We’ll meet at the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road. In the morning we will be having a community cleanup, followed by sustainable gardening. We will work together to count and take photos of every bag of trash collected for a report to the Department of Transportation. You’re also welcome to bring a canned food item for our Earth Day food drive supporting local families.

Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources.

When families move into AHC's affordable housing communities, we like to give them Welcome Bags filled with essential household supplies to say, "welcome home."

Volunteers will purchase all the items to fill the bags. A large, sturdy, reusable tote bag with a square or rectangle base is ideal. For purposes of hygiene and dignity, we ask that all items are new, unopened and unused. Please make sure items fit into the bags and limit your donations to the items listed below. We do not have the space or capacity to accept other items. Most volunteers find it useful and cost-effective to purchase items in bulk, as long as each final product has all the necessary items in it. Small 8 oz containers of all liquids are best, since the bags can get quite bulky. Thank you!

By emphasizing the importance of understanding the cycle of addiction, our goal is to arm our youth with the knowledge of the dangers associated with drug and alcohol use, how to prevent addiction, and how to seek help.

Since 2017, Arise and Flourish has helped to bring a greater awareness of the addiction problem by visiting 490 Middle and High schools in Montgomery County, Maryland and speaking to more than 49,000 students.  We are run by volunteers who dedicate their time to visiting the schools. In order for our organization to grow and bring continued awareness to the schools and community, we need your help to continue our mission.

We are looking for young people in recovery who have been sober for one year or more and are interested in becoming a volunteer with Arise and Flourish, Inc. to speak to MCPS MS and HS students, sharing their personal story and educating them about the cycle of addiction.

This is an amazing opportunity to gain volunteer experience helping Arise and Flourish, a non-profit organization based in Montgomery County, Maryland that speaks to students about substance use and misuse.  During the last twelve years, Arise and Flourish has paved the way through public and private schools on educating our youth of the dangers associated with addiction. Our program delivers a robust and real-life look into the cycle of addiction and provides an understanding, knowledge and insight on how to exercise prevention. Arise and Flourish’s family of dedicated volunteers have delivered our program to nearly 400 schools and have reached over 49,000 students with our impactful message of prevention and hope. In addition to our visits to schools, we are also asking for the student’s assistance to continue the education of addiction and prevention through SSL hours. 

What students will do:

Student will first need to complete the volunteer form/parent/guardian permission slip and submit via to e-mail info@ariseandflourish.org. Please note that MCPS has not vetted the YouTube videos created by our organization and parents/guardians are responsible for previewing the videos and then providing parent permission for their students to view the videos.

Once approved, students will watch two video presentations provided by our organization.

How to earn community service hours (SSL):

Students have the ability to earn 1 SSL hour for the quality completion of this project and can earn up to 4 SSL hours in total (cumulative - not per year) for each speaker video watched and paper written (up to 4 speaker videos along with the one video for the cycle of addiction).

When your paper or art project is complete, e-mail info@ariseandflourish.org your 2-page paper or an electronic copy of your art project and paragraph to collect your signed SSL sheet for this project. Students will need to cc their parents as well on the email submission. Please allow 3-5 business days to receive your signed SSL form.

Privacy:

Please, do not share any pictures or likeness of the students as well as personal information such as home address, email or phone number etc. in your paper or artwork. Also, please do not include any real-life pictures or images of yourself. We ask that students include their first name, grade and school only on each submission.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home until schools resume normal status.

Volunteer Opportunity: Mental Wellness Race Ambassadors

EveryMind will host a community 5K race and 1K walk on May 10, 2026. This is an early-morning event designed to raise funds, promote mental wellness, and bring together participants of all ages through activities like warm-ups, sponsor activations, and engagement with local leaders. Organized by the Marketing Department, the race event will run for about four hours and aims to strengthen community connection while recognizing volunteers and attracting individuals, teams, and groups from across the area.

We’re looking for enthusiastic Volunteers to join us in promoting EveryMind’s mission. As a Volunteer, you will play a key role in supporting our event and outreach activities, engaging directly with the community to raise awareness.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Engage & Connect with the Community:
-Spark conversations with local businesses through upbeat, mission-driven cold calls that help spread the word about Race Day.
-Hit the ground running with in-person outreach to business districts, residential communities, and bustling shopping centers in your assigned zones.
-Represent EveryMind proudly at two race-related events, supporting community connection and momentum-building.
-Join our outreach/orientation session, where you'll get hands-on training in community engagement and registration techniques
2. Champion EveryMind’s Mission
-Share EveryMind’s crucial mental health services and values with the wider community, helping raise awareness, inspire support, and strengthen community ties.
3. Team Collaboration
-Work side-by-side with fellow volunteers and EveryMind staff to ensure smooth, organized, and high-energy execution leading up to Race Day.

What You’ll Receive:

Commitment per Volunteer:
Minimum 8 hours/week (M–F)
One weekend outreach event per month

There are TWO 8-week Volunteer cycles. We are seeking THREE volunteers for each cycle.
Cycle 1: February 2 – March 27. Must be able to attend Orientation Feb 2nd In-Person 3-5:30pm
Cycle 2: March 23 – May 15th. Must be able to attend Orientation March 23 In-Person 3-5:30pm

REQUIREMENTS:
-Must be 18 years or older.
-Must be willing to use their personal cell phone to make outreach calls (you’ll use an app-based internal number...your personal number stays private).
-Must have access to a personal laptop or be able to work from the EveryMind office at 1000 Twinbrook Pkwy.
-Access to reliable transportation and a willingness to travel to local events, including transporting materials from our Rockville office to event locations.
-Comfortable making cold calls and speaking with community members in person.
-The volunteer must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting. All volunteers must be free of illegal drugs and abuse of alcohol, and must be fully able to always perform all required duties.

What we are looking for in a Volunteer:
-Show up on time, follows through on commitments, and can work independently while also being a strong team player.
-Able to attend the required in-person orientation/training session and willing to participate in two assigned race-related events (1x/month)
-Friendly, positive, and able to represent EveryMind with professionalism.

YMCA Youth Links Mentoring is looking for adult volunteers to be positive role models for youth between the ages of 5-19. Our program is a collaboration between Montgomery County Child Welfare, the Circuit Court, Montgomery County Public Schools, the Department of Juvenile Services and the YMCA. Many of the children in our program live in foster or other out-of-home care; most are monitored by Child Welfare because of neglect, abuse or other challenges in the home.  Mentoring guarantees these young people that there is someone who cares about them, and that they are not alone in dealing with life’s day-to-day challenges.  

With just 4 - 8 hours a month, you can support boys and girls living all over Montgomery County by offering friendship, encouragement, and learning opportunities. Volunteer mentors are required to attend informational and training sessions. Once matched with a mentee, mentors are encouraged to attend continuing education workshops and program events.

Not every neighborhood in the Washington, D.C., region offers convenient access to a brick-and-mortar food pantry or other hunger resources. To help fill this gap, the Capital Area Food Bank brings no-cost pop-up markets directly into neighborhoods where they’re needed through their Mobile Markets, which offer monthly distribution of free fruits, vegetables, shelf-stable food, and other groceries to area residents.

Mobile Markets occur on the last or second-to-last Thursday of each month at the Rockville Senior Center. Volunteers are needed to assist with food distribution, including setting up tables of produce, bagging produce, helping families select and take food to their cars, and cleaning up.

This opportunity is available for student volunteers to earn SSL hours. Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit organization directly with any questions and/or concerns. The nonprofit is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. For SSL hours to be added to a student’s record, students must submit MCPS Form 560-51, Student Service Learning Activity Verification Form, to the school SSL coordinator by the due dates on the form (no later than the last Friday in May), which can be found at bit.ly/SSLReflection. Students will need to complete sections 1 and 3 of MCPS Form 560-51 in full. In lieu of section 2 of MCPS Form 560-51, students should attach the “SSL Hour Form” completed and provided to the student by the City of Rockville supervisor.
