The UpCounty Hub is serving families in need. We provide fresh produce, shelf stable foods, emergency and hygiene items, activity kits for kids and social services for the families that we serve.

We are in need of volunteers to assist in our monthly diaper distribution/pantry at The Upcounty Hub. Volunteers' duties vary from handing out diapers to families with appointments to assisting in the food pantry.

The PATESI Foundation is seeking male volunteers to serve as educators and allies.  No previous experience needed. We are inviting men who believe in dignity, equity, and community support to join our Male Ally-ship Program as volunteer educators. This is an initiative designed to equip boys and men with the knowledge and confidence to support menstrual health, reduce stigma, and stand alongside peers experiencing period poverty. Menstrual health isn’t “a women’s issue”, it’s a human issue, and we need passionate male voices to help normalize the conversation, challenge stigma, and help educate the community.

Key Responsibilities:

As a volunteer educator, you will:

Learn essential menstrual health education to help dismantle shame and misinformationHelp break harmful stereotypes and silence Facilitate safe, fun and respectful conversations with youth and adults Provide a safe space for discussionShare practical ways men can support individuals lacking access to menstrual products Model empathy, leadership, and ally-ship in your community

Our first event will be held on December 11th at Montgomery College, Takoma Park from 3:00-4:00 PM. More sessions coming in the new year. We are looking to start training our volunteers as soon as possible. This is more than just volunteering, it’s stepping up as a role model and helping build a world where no one is shamed, silenced, or left behind because of something as natural as a period. Top prize has been increased to $5,000, second place is $3,000, third place and fan favorite winners will receive $1,000. Cash prizes are being donated by The Magnolia Companies in honor of two young Montgomery County residents lost to fentanyl—Michael Pisarra and Matthew Loudon, both MCPS graduates.  Submissions are due Sunday, December 7. The CIT acquires skills through active participation in the summer program activities, with instructors and staff as mentors. The CIT program is a model for promoting positive group dynamics, inspiring creativity, and fostering a nurturing and caring environment for all children.

Availability:

Candidates must be available to volunteer for at least one consecutive, two-week session between June 22nd-  August 14th  to participate in the program. Additional hours are available upon request. Please state which 2-week session(s) you are available for and if you would be interested in participating in the CIT program for more than one two-week session. CITs must choose the two-week session for which they are available.

Session 1: June 22 - July 2 (no camp July 3)

You must be 14 years old by June 22, 2026, and have completed 8th grade to apply. If you turn 14 later in the summer (prior to August 3), please let us know in the application. You may be considered for a later session.

Before Summer Programs start, there will be a mandatory training session for all CITs to prepare for camp.

CITs will receive Student Service Learning (SSL) hours based on the number of hours worked during the summer, including the training session. SSL hours are subject to the CIT Program Coordinator's discretion.

If accepted into the program, the CIT must provide further documentation indicating they are in good standing with their current school. If required documentation does not display desired outcomes, CIT's acceptance may be forfeited.

CIT must complete their two-week commitment, or SSL hours will be forfeited.

Volunteer: The UpCounty Hub - Delivery Drivers Needed - 2025

The UpCounty Consolidation Hub (currently at the UpCounty Regional Services Center) is serving families in need. We provide fresh produce, shelf stable foods, emergency and hygiene items, activity kits for kids and some social services for the families that we serve.

Drivers are needed on Thursdays to deliver food packages to the doorstep of vulnerable Upcounty families, drivers should be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Delivery is contactless.  Addresses provided upon arrival at the Hub on delivery day.

You will arrive at the UpCounty Hub between 10:45am-11:00am on Thursday and pull around to the side of the building to the loading dock. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAP SPOTS! Food packages with addresses will be provided upon arrival. If possible please try to register for this shift by the Wednesday before so we can assign boxes to the correct number of cars.

The UpCounty Consolidation Hub (currently at the UpCounty Regional Services Center) is serving families in need. We provide fresh produce, shelf stable foods, emergency and hygiene items, activity kits for kids and some social services for the families that we serve.

Drivers are needed on Thursdays to deliver food packages to the doorstep of vulnerable Upcounty families, drivers should be able to lift up to 25 lbs. Delivery is contactless.  Addresses provided upon arrival at the Hub on delivery day.

You will arrive at the UpCounty Hub between 10:45am-11:00am on Thursday and pull around to the side of the building to the loading dock. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN HANDICAP SPOTS! Food packages with addresses will be provided upon arrival. If possible please try to register for this shift by the Wednesday before so we can assign boxes to the correct number of cars.

Volunteer: So What Else - Outdoor Food Distribution - December 2025 (Gaithersburg)

Description: While we no longer operate a pantry at Lakeforest Mall, we're still just as committed to serving the Gaithersburg community. Our food distribution operations have moved to South Lake Elementary School. Every Tuesday, So What Else, with the help of our incredible team, provides free food to over 500 people. Volunteers can park in the parking lot that is to the right down the hill close to the playground at the school.


Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, breaking down boxes, cleaning up, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. This shift involves interacting with clients, other volunteers, and So What Else team members. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty( NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.


10:30 am to 2:30 pm ( 4 Hours): Volunteers will assist in setting up the distribution, breaking down empty boxes, cleaning up, and assisting with the distribution breakdown.

Volunteers will assist with event activities at the Gaithersburg Public Library, located at 18330 Montgomery Village Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20879, and help guide residents with directions or questions.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own food and water. Breaks will be included, and SSL forms will be provided. Feel free to bring a can of soup for Super Saturday, where we donate a can of soup to those in need.

In addition to our food pantry and pop-up distributions, the So What Else Montgomery County team also operates a robust home delivery program for clients all across the DMV who are unable to leave their homes, either due to disabilities, lack of transportation, or both. As a result, we are always in need of volunteer home delivery drivers that can donate their time, and their vehicle, to help transport groceries from our pantry to our clients. 

Requirements: Interested drivers must be 18 years or older, bring their own vehicle, and have a valid driver's license and proof of insurance. 

Activity Description: Once signed up, volunteers will reach out to Megan ahead of time, confirming their presence, and then arrive at our pantry on the day and time of their choosing to pick up grocery bags and deliver them. Each driver will follow a predetermined route prepared by our team. Please text her once you sign up to get the delivery route with the number 2407054345. Most delivery routes take around 1-2 hours to complete, depending on the number of clients that day. More information can be provided at the time of the pick up.

*At this time, we DO NOT provide vehicles for drivers.

At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday, So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.


Volunteers will help direct traffic and should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods. Volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes and clothing to move around and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors, so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift.

**Only 18 years and older, and you will be standing for a long time and be alone for the majority of the shift**

Volunteers play a vital role in ensuring these items reach the people who need them most.

Tasks may include distributing food to families, preparing grocery bags for home deliveries, organizing donated goods, assisting with inventory, loading and unloading delivery vehicles, and maintaining a clean and welcoming space for all.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful difference, earn SSL hours, and engage the whole family—children over 10 are welcome to participate with a parent or guardian (required for anyone under 16).

Please make sure to wear close-toed shoes when volunteering!


NEW: Traffic Volunteer (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4 PM) – We need 1 volunteer daily participating in the Maryland Community Service Program to assist with managing traffic outside. This role is outdoors, so please dress accordingly( 18+ only)

Volunteer: So What Else - Outdoor Food Distribution - December 2025 (North Bethesda)

Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

Organization: So What Else, Inc.

Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.


5:30 am to 8:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control. (Double Hours are available for individuals participating in the Maryland Community Service Program when volunteering for the Traffic Volunteer position.) (THE DOUBLE IS NOT FOR SSL )

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

More than 90% of our calls for service are to respond to medical emergencies in the community.  Every day our EMTs are called to vehicle collisions, farm accidents, allergic reactions, drug overdoses, falls, cuts, and this is just a partial list.

 

WE TRAIN YOU – You will learn everything you need to know to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician – no expense to you. Volunteering with Fire/Rescue is rewarding and offers the flexibility to contribute according to your availability. Membership is dependent upon successful completion of a fingerprint, background check and medical exam - all provided free.

Our most successful candidates are adults who are finished with full-time school, established in their career, and live within 10 miles of our fire station in Beallsville.  Is This you?

More than 90% of our calls for service are to respond to medical emergencies in the community.  Every day our EMTs are called to vehicle collisions, farm accidents, allergic reactions, drug overdoses, falls, cuts, and this is just a partial list.

 

WE TRAIN YOU – You will learn everything you need to know to become a certified Emergency Medical Technician – no expense to you. Volunteering with Fire/Rescue is rewarding and offers the flexibility to contribute according to your availability. Membership is dependent upon successful completion of a fingerprint, background check and medical exam - all provided free.

Making snack bags is a great family and group volunteer opportunity. You will buy or collect the supplies and then decorate and assemble the bags.

AHC has three properties in Montgomery County. The on-site Resident Services teams organize a variety of fun and educational events. Snack bags help us fight food insecurity and encourage engagement.

Snack bags are paper lunch bags filled with a small water bottle and 3 small snack items (crackers, Goldfish, chips, cookies, etc). Decorating the bags is fun but optional.

Delivery options include Charter House, 1316 Fenwick Lane, Silver Spring, and Allium Place, 4024 Gannon Drive, Silver Spring.
