Hope Connections for Cancer Support is having its largest annual fundraiser on Friday, June 5, at our Bethesda location; 10100 Laureate Way.

We need volunteers to help usher guests from the shuttle parking area to the event area.  The shift would be from 5 pm- 8 pm, and water, snacks, and dinner are included for all volunteers!  Teams of 2 or more can also volunteer together.

We're looking for dedicated volunteers to help out around our Montgomery County Warehouse, which takes in thousand of pounds of donated food, clothing, toys, household goods, diapers and more each day. Volunteers will help with the following projects: organizing and displaying donations, helping to take inventory, cleaning and organizing our space, making grocery bags for home deliveries, helping to load and unload delivery vehicles and more! Age requirements: We accept volunteers aged 10 and older. Physical ability: While some of these tasks are physically strenuous, we have plenty of opportunities for folks that have physical limitations or other restrictions, and our warehouse is wheelchair accessible. How to prepare: Volunteers should arrive wearing closed-toed shoes and clothing they can move around in and get dirty. Please note that the heating in our warehouse is currently out of service, so please dress warmly, wearing layers and coats for your shift. Metro Move Fest is where movement, community and giving back come together. It is a celebration of wellness, collaboration and impact! We will feature a mix of competitive and recreational movement experiences for the entire family. The goal is to support a healthier, more connected community.

We are looking for student volunteers to help with the entire movement festival. In addition to setting up and taking down equipment, we would like the volunteers to help facilitate different movement activities. For example, preparing participants for the relay race or being a facilitator to any of the activities planned. If there are young participants helping to ensure that they're safely participating by demonstrating how to use the equipment. Being an assistant at the first aid station or the hydration station.

Full Description
Long Branch Library is seeking volunteer(s) to assist with our weekly English Conversation Club, held every Saturday from 10:30am to 12:00pm.

English Conversation Club is a casual and supportive program designed for adults who want to build confidence in their English speaking and listening skills. Volunteer(s) will work alongside another facilitator to help guide conversations, encourage participation, and create a friendly and inclusive atmosphere for attendees.
The program takes place in a meeting room at Long Branch Library each Saturday on an ongoing basis.

All Montgomery County Public Library volunteers are required to complete a short volunteer registration form and sign a confidentiality agreement before they begin volunteering.

Client Service Rep will assist low-income income families select clothing, shoes, linens and household items.  Client Service Rep will also sort and stock donations.

Join the Youth Action Institute as we celebrate our final event of the school year before transitioning to our summer programming! We’ll be closing down the EDCJCC parking lot for a large-scale service project in partnership with We Are Family, which supports senior citizens who are choosing to age in place across Washington, DC. Volunteers will pack groceries for clients.

This project is open to volunteers ages 11-18 and is eligible for 2.5 SSL hours.

24 Frames of change is an internship program dedicated to developing the minds of young talented filmmakers, and spreading messages of positive change in our community. It is a 9 week long program where students will meet for an hour once to twice a week on Zoom to learn about each step of the process of filmmaking. During this time participants will choose a topic affecting their local community that they are passionate about. Together the participants will create a PSA short film about their topic and how their community can improve. This program will help young students expand their portfolio as well as learn communication skills, filmmaking techniques, and collaboration. They will work closely with our adult film director.

   Students may earn up to 20 hours of service. (IN ORDER TO RECEIVE HOURS STUDENTS MUST ATTEND MEETINGS AND FINISH SHORT FILM). Students will be required to sign a waiver, use personal accounts when accessing the zoom or interacting with our film director.

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur.

Virtual sessions will not be recorded.

Making snack bags is a great family and group volunteer opportunity. You will buy or collect the supplies and then decorate and assemble the bags for our residents!

AHC has three properties in Montgomery County. The on-site Resident Services teams organize a variety of fun and educational events. Snack bags help us fight food insecurity and encourage engagement.

Snack bags are paper lunch bags filled with a small water bottle and 3 small snack items (crackers, Goldfish, chips, cookies, etc). Decorating the bags is fun but optional, use your creativity!

Come join Colesville Baptist Church's 5th annual Pancake Breakfast event! Every year, we get in touch with the local Colesville community by giving out meal comprised of pancakes, eggs, sausage, and bacon. Helpers will Cook Food, Serve Pancakes, and contribute the setup/breakdown of event.

About Green Corners for Everyone

Green Corners for Everyone (GC4E) is a student-led environmental sustainability initiative that aims to convert underused public space into vibrant, lively green corner/pocket park to make nature more accessible. GC4E is an initiative started by students part of SGAP Leaders' Sustainability Fellows 2026 Program.

Looking for volunteers to help with our fall, winter, spring and summer basketball league. Volunteers will be working with the game clock, the game book and the concession stand. The seasons are ongoing in the fall, winter and spring. Games will be on Saturdays and Sundays in the Potomac, Rockville, Bethesda and Gaithersburg area. We have boys from 2nd grade to 10th and girls from 4th grade to 8th grade. We are looking fro volunteers aged 13-18. Games usually run from around 8am-7pm with volunteers coming at least 10 minutes before game time. No experience needed we will teach you everything you need to know. We are currently looking for volunteers to assist with food recovery operations at Nourish Now. Volunteers are vital to our operations to ensure that the items we are distributing to our community are safe to consume and high-quality.  Our volunteers will work together to keep our warehouse efficient and our food storage clean and organized.

Nourish Now is a 501 c3 nonprofit food bank, specializing in food recovery and providing donations from grocers, caterers, restaurants, and other food donors. These donations benefit children, families, and the elderly as well as shelters, food pantries, and other organizations working to end hunger. Through our programs, viable food partners are identified, and donations of food are recovered and redistributed through our network. 

Celebrate the mothers at Charter House, an affordable housing apartment building in downtown Silver Spring, at a party on Thursday, May 28. 

Volunteers will help with set-up and decorations, serve food during the party and help with clean-up. The volunteer time slot is 4:15-7:15pm

Volunteers should be age 14+, able to follow instructions and interact with residents.

The active senior citizens living at Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC)'s Charter House apartment building like to exercise. We're looking for volunteers to lead weekly exercise or yoga classes. If you are an experienced teacher, wonderful. If you don't have teaching experience, you can host the class. You'll welcome residents and play an exercise video on the large screen.

Classes held in the early evening (sometime between 5-6:30pm) have been well-attended. We've also hosted morning classes in the past.

Clarksburg Yard has adopted a Gateway Center Drive! This is a 2 -miles stretch that runs from Shawnee Lane to Clarksburg Road and is parallel to Frederick Road behind our property.

Every other month, we will be organizing a group of Middle and High School Students to clean up trash along the road. Our mission is to participate in a community activity by keeping county-owned roadsides litter free. This opportunity is held outdoors and near the roads. We are asking all volunteers to read and have an adult sign the consent form prior to the event.

*Minors will NOT be able to participate without completed consent form.*

----- What will I be doing? You will meet at 1pm at the Clarksburg Church and walk over to the designated area. You will be equipped with gloves, hefty trash bags, and pick-up tools. Opening Minds through Art 

Student volunteers are invited to join us for Opening Minds Through Art (OMA), 

an award-winning, failure-free, evidence-based intergenerational art program. 

OMA provides older adults with early-stage memory loss opportunities for 

creative self-expression and social engagement. 

Volunteers are matched with participants to provide support as they create 

abstract artwork that engage their minds and break through cognitive barriers. 

Volunteers must attend the orientation, all art sessions, and the art show.

As a Meaningful Patient & Family Visit Volunteer, you provide emotional support, companionship, and a comforting presence to patients and their loved ones during their time in hospice care. Your role is centered on creating meaningful moments—whether through conversation, quiet companionship, or simply being present during times of need.

Responsibilities may include visiting with patients, engaging in light activities, offering a listening ear, supporting family members during visits, and helping foster a peaceful and respectful environment. Volunteers may also assist with legacy projects, such as memory sharing or letter writing, and provide gentle support during transitional moments.

Each month features a different positive theme to guide artwork/card, art works and messages: March: You Are Not Alone, April: Hope and Strength, May: One Day at a Time, June: Bright Days Ahead, July: Courage in Every Step, August: Keep Going. Volunteers design hospital-appropriate cards, write supportive messages, and help package donations for healthcare partners. All art supplies are provided. Sessions are held on the first floor at Rockville Memorial Library on Fridays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Please look for a BIG Teddy Bear wearing an ArtUnity Youth T-shirt. Students may attend for 1–2 hours within this time window. Registration is required. Students earn 1 SSL hour per 60 minutes of verified participation (maximum 2 hours per session), based on supervisor attendance. All artwork must meet program guidelines and is reviewed and approved on-site by the ArtUnity Youth program manager before SSL hours are verified.

Clarksburg Yard has adopted a Gateway Center Drive! This is a 2 -miles stretch that runs from Shawnee Lane to Clarksburg Road and is parallel to Frederick Road behind our property.

Every other month, we will be organizing a group of Middle and High School Students to clean up trash along the road. Our mission is to participate in a community activity by keeping county-owned roadsides litter free. This opportunity is held outdoors and near the roads. We are asking all volunteers to read and have an adult sign the consent form prior to the event.

*Minors will NOT be able to participate without completed consent form.*

----- What will I be doing? You will meet at 1pm at the Clarksburg Church and walk over to the designated area. You will be equipped with gloves, hefty trash bags, and pick-up tools. Volunteer with UNMUTE to bring warmth and music to the senior community !!

Volunteers will create physical cheerful penpal letters to brighten the day of hospitalized children, seniors, and students. These letters will be distributed to hospitals, senior centers, and youth programs to help brighten someone’s day and reduce feelings of isolation. Each letter is 1 SSL hour. Please include a separate cover letter including your name, email address, school name, and number of cards submitted.

Artwork Guidelines:

Artwork can be created using: Colored pencils, markers, watercolor, crayons, etc. All drawings must be fully colored.

Physical artworks should be created on cardstock, watercolor paper, or letter paper (cardstock or watercolor paper preferred). Fold the paper in half and only draw on one side of the paper. The other side will be used to write the letter. You can draw anything appropriate and encouraging. Please avoid violent and scary themes. Some good drawing ideas include nature landscapes, animals, flowers, sunsets, etc. 

Letter Guidelines: Write a letter (6-10 sentences) about: something you did recently, a hobby you enjoy, a favorite place or season, something that made you smile, etc. The letter must fill up the inside of the card. Please do not mention illness, politics, hospitals or write phrases like “get well soon.” Instead, focus on sharing something cheerful about your life. Each completed card counts as 1 SSL hour. Please start with a friendly greeting such as: Hi there! Hello! Please only include your first name at the end of the letter (Ex. Love, Alex). Letters should be handwritten so they feel more personal and genuine to the recipient.

Please do not include any personal information such as your full name, email address, or home address in your notes. Also, please do not include any real-life pictures or images of yourself. 

Examples: 

Submissions must meet basic quality standards. SSL hours will not be awarded if they: Are not fully colored, include AI-generated artwork, appear very low effort (quick scribbles, unfinished drawings), contain inappropriate or negative content, contain unoriginal/copied content (including templates), etc. Please create artwork that you would feel proud to give to a friend or display on your wall. Our goal is to share high-quality, cheerful artwork and messages that can truly brighten someone’s day.

SSL hours for submissions received before Friday, May 22 will be reviewed and sent out on Friday, May 22.

SSL hours for submissions received on or after May 22 will be reviewed and sent out in January 2027.

NOTICE: Volunteers for this opportunity must successfully complete a background check prior to volunteering. 

Volunteers assist with the Learn to Swim program at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. Volunteers work as an instructor's aid and are paired up in the pool with paid instructors. They also help take attendance, set out the kickboards, diving rings, and lifejackets and help put away the swim equipment after lessons. Volunteers must be able to demonstrate the swimming skills for the level they are working with. A time commitment of 7-8 weeks is required. 

Session dates are (roughly):

Winter session 1 Early January-mid-February; Winter session 2 mid-February-early April; Spring session mid-April-mid June; Summer sessions (1-4) mid-June-early August; Fall session 1 early September-late October; Fall session 2 late October-mid-December.

This opportunity is available for student volunteers to earn SSL hours. Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours. Students will need to complete sections 1 and 3 of MCPS Form 560-51 in full. In lieu of section 2 of MCPS Form 560-51, students should attach the “SSL Hour Form” completed and provided to the student by the City of Rockville supervisor.

The Interfaith Works Homeless Services Department provides weekly outreach to individuals living in encampments throughout Prince George’s County. Each Thursday, social workers, peer support specialists, and other Interfaith Works staff visit designated sites to connect with residents and assess their needs on the path to housing. Join our next Volunteer Training - September 22nd, 23rd & 24th, 2026 from 9am to 4pm in Gaithersburg, MD.

Volunteers are the heart of CaringMatters. In order to responsibly serve patients and the bereaved, every volunteer who works directly with clients must complete a three-day introductory training session, which is often described by graduates as a "transformative experience." 

Because of the interaction volunteers have with clients, necessary background checks, paperwork and other items that must be completed before attending the New Volunteer Training.  These requirements include: 

21 years of age or older

Consenting to a background check (no cost to volunteer trainee) 

Attending an informal interview with Penny Gladhill, Director of Volunteer Helping Hands and co-founder of CaringMatters

After the three day training, specific program volunteers are required to complete additional training. Requirements for each program are detailed below. Please note that volunteers are able to volunteer with more than one program.

Join us at the Gaithersburg Library Medium Room 2 to write meaningful letters as part of From Me to You. Volunteers will create thoughtful and creative letters to connect with others, spread kindness, and brighten someone’s day through written words and art. This is a great opportunity to build communication skills, express creativity, and make a positive impact in the community. All materials are provided.

Join us on Saturday, June 6, from 9 am - 11 am for our community clean up (weather permitting)! Spend a Saturday outdoors enjoying the fresh air, and helping care for our planet. Participants will collect litter and recyclables along 1.5 miles Wightman Road. Students can earn SSL hours. We’ll meet at the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road.

Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources.

Opportunity to help during Annual Turkish Festival in DC. 

The Annual Turkish Festival is a long-standing community event, and this year we will be celebrating its 24th year. It is one of the largest cultural festivals in Washington, DC. Each year, the festival is supported by more than 100 volunteers, including a core group of approximately 60–70 returning volunteers.

The festival runs from early morning through the evening. The opportunity is mostly structured around 4-hour shifts. Some volunteer for one shift, while others may volunteer for two shifts.

Student volunteers assist with a variety of festival-related service activities, including children’s tent activities, tea and coffee service, guest hospitality, volunteer check-in, stage area support, setup, breakdown, arranging tables and chairs, and general festival logistics.

Looking for ways to shape the next generation of students and make a difference in your community? The City of Rockville's Latino Youth Development Program (LYDP) hosts a free after school program at Elwood Smith Community Center and is looking for tutors, retired educators, or passionate professionals to volunteer for 1-2 hours per week.

Volunteers will work in small groups or perform one-on-one tutoring with middle and/or high school students. You will support them with homework on subjects such as math, science, reading, and others. This is a great way to build relationships with the students while also helping them excel in school.

Volunteers with educator or tutor experience are preferred. Volunteers fluent in Spanish are preferred, but not required, to help a few students who primarily speak Spanish.

The volunteer shifts are 3:30-4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays with middle school students, and 3-4 p.m. on Wednesdays with high school students. Volunteer availability can be discussed.

This will be a meaningful, rewarding experience that will help our students excel in school, and in turn support them in working toward graduation and beyond!

Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Participants have told us that they can hear the trees thanking them. It's an opportunity to be outside and make a difference for the environment. The activity is open to everyone. Reflection Park’s mission reflects a value for harmony with the natural world. Our one-mile natural-surface trail through the forest offers a peaceful respite from the noise of everyday life. However, the native species living there face a quieter kind of disruption as they endure competition from invasive plants that threaten their natural abundance. Invasive Bittersweet is one of those species that was introduced to this country from Eastern Asia as an ornamental plant. It grows rapidly, jeopardizing the health and survival of other plants as it winds around them.

We’ll start with a short primer on recognizing Bittersweet and other common invasives in our area before we get to the physical work of vine-clearing – and, in the process, head-clearing! Removal is surprisingly satisfying, and every invasive plant we eliminate helps protect another tree or understory plant.

Anyone interested in spending time in nature is welcome; no experience is necessary. Please bring water and wear long sleeves and long pants to protect yourself from scratches and insect bites, and ensure you have sturdy footwear for safely navigating the forest terrain. While we will provide some gloves and tools, bringing your own is encouraged to ensure everyone is well-equipped.

Reflection Park is registered with the Montgomery County Volunteer Center, allowing us to approve Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. Encourage your teens to take part in this opportunity to learn and serve! Students under 18 are welcome with a parent or guardian.

Position: Volunteer Web Developer & Maintenance Specialist

Commitment: Flexible schedule, estimated 2-4 hours per week

Duration: Minimum One year commitment preferred

Location: Remote

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain the Grace Helping Hands website

• Ensure website functionality, security, and optimal performance

• Implement responsive design for mobile and desktop platforms

• Integrate donation platforms and volunteer management systems

• Provide technical support and troubleshooting as needed

• Collaborate with our communications and fundraising teams

• Regular updates to content, events, and grant information

Qualifications:

• Professional experience in web development

• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks

• Experience with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal, or similar)

• Knowledge of web security best practices

• Familiarity with hosting platforms and domain management

Grace Helping Hands is seeking a skilled and motivated volunteer Website Manager to oversee and maintain our nonprofit’s website. This role is ideal for adults with professional experience in web management, digital communications, or IT who are passionate about supporting our mission to provide hygiene kits to homeless women and children in our community.

Responsibilities:

Maintain and update website content to ensure accuracy and relevance.

Optimize website navigation and user experience for visitors and potential donors.

Collaborate with the GHH team to add new programs, events, and fundraising campaigns online.

Monitor website performance and recommend improvements or updates.

Support integration of online donation tools and volunteer sign-up forms.

Qualifications:

Professional experience managing websites (WordPress, Squarespace, Wix, or similar platforms preferred).

Basic knowledge of web design, SEO, and digital content management.

Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Passion for nonprofit work and community impact.

School Carnival and Fair - Student volunteers will run carnival games, prizes, snacks, arts and crafts and other activities. They will get a free slice of pizza, but will be charged for everything else they want. Thanks in advance for all their effort.
