The event is designed to connect community members with free and confidential health services while showcasing local organizations that support health, wellness, education, and career opportunities. More than 900 community members are expected to attend.

Volunteer opportunities include:

SSL Hours for Social Media Support
Middle and high school students are eligible to earn SSL hours by reviewing, finalizing, and creating content for our social media platforms, including TikTok ,Instagram and Facebook.

SSL Hour Equivalency:

-          Volunteers creating videos will receive SSL hours based on the actual amount of time spent producing the video, upon review and approval by Grace Helping Hands.

-          Volunteers reviewing videos will receive 1 SSL hour for every three (3) social media content pieces reviewed and finalized (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, or Facebook posts), upon review and approval by Grace Helping Hands.

-          All submitted work must meet Grace Helping Hands content standards and receive approval before SSL hours are awarded.

Instructions for Earning SSL Hours:
Content Review and Creation Requirements:
Review content created by the social media team, including:
- Titles and descriptions.
- Introduction/context of the post.
- Message clarity and impact.
- Hashtags and keywords.
- Attached images, videos, and links (e.g., YouTube).
- Proofread for grammar, spelling, and style.
- Edit, finalize, or create engaging content specifically designed for TikTok , Instagram and Facebook.

Submission Process:
Submit the reviewed, finalized, or created content as a document to volunteer@gracehelpinghands.org for approval.
Make edits based on feedback provided by Grace Helping Hands.

Approval Process:
An adult representative from Grace Helping Hands will review the finalized content.

Additional Notes:
All social media content will be managed and approved by Grace Helping Hands.
Volunteers assisting with website updates will work on improving the site’s layout, adding relevant content, and optimizing functionality. Prior experience with web editing is helpful but not required.

To ensure consistency and impact, we ask that volunteers commit to at least 12 months of service and be able to dedicate four hours per week to this role. Responsibilities include creating and scheduling posts, engaging with our online community, and helping spread awareness about our mission to provide toiletry kits and feminine products to homeless women and children. TLC's exciting summer small therapeutic group programs are in search of fun, creative, and energetic volunteers. You will help our participants have a summer of fun in a variety of ways. There are exciting weekly themes, arts and crafts, yoga, music and drama and outdoor water activities on any given week. You'll engage with young children regularly and assist them in building social skills, physical strength, and improving their communication. Fun and learning are all in a day's play. Come be a part of your community and have a fantastic time this summer. We welcome volunteers who are age 16 and over. Programs run for 7 weeks. Volunteers must volunteer for a minimum of 2 full weeks (Monday-Friday), mornings, afternoons, or all day. Note - all shifts filled except 1st 2 weeks of August still has 1 spot.  SSL hours available. Wonderful learning opportunity for anyone interested in working with children, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work, Counseling or Special Education.

When Jimmy Biddle is anxious about finishing second grade, Pete takes him to Paris in his VW bus and Jimmy connects with his inner artist.

All ushers must be 16 years of age in order to volunteer usher. NO EXCEPTIONS. Once you have registered for a date and time, you will receive a confirmation email from the MCVC website as well as from Imagination Stage. All volunteers will get credit for the hours worked, this includes arrival time to dismissal. If you are late arriving, you will receive credit for the time you arrived. You must sign in with the front desk upon arrival and sign out upon dismissal.  Your point of contact will be the Lead House Manager on duty or the Guest Experience Coordinator. These individuals will dismiss you. DO NOT LEAVE PRIOR TO DISMISSAL. If you need to leave early, inform the House Manager.

Attire for volunteers is all black, casual. No ripped jeans, no crocs, no flip flops. T-shirts with minimal logos are ok. You will receive one SSL form for each time you volunteer; for those that need SSL forms, please inform the House Manager during the pre show meeting.

MusicAid (https://www.musicaid.us/home) is a student-led organization. As proud SSL partners with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Maryland.

We are a National 501(c)(3) non-profit and tax-exempt organization. MusicAid is one of the certifying organizations participating in the President’s Volunteer Service Award program.

Founded in July 2023, MusicAid has organized and contributed to 100+concerts by the middle of 2026, involving 1.8k+ cumulative attendees and more than 600 unique student musicians. These include performances at 7 senior homes, NIH Atrium, Children's National Hospital in D.C. We also provided More than 30 free piano accompaniments to musicians who couldn't afford the fee. We're looking forward to hosting more concerts in the future.

MusicAid is proud to be recognized by the Montgomery County Board of Education. We are actively recruiting talented musicians from K-12 to join our mission. MusicAid hosts biweekly or monthly concerts at various assisted living facilities near Potomac and Arlington, Join MusicAid today and earn up to 4 SSL hours for contributing to our concert performances! SSL hours vary based on your performance duration and the length of the concert.

We appreciate all types of performances, including but not limited to instrument playing, singing, dancing, talk shows, comedy acts, poetry readings, and more. Whether you're a solo act, duo, trio, or group, you're invited to perform.

We offer the following equipment at the facility: a piano, a music stand, and a Bluetooth speaker. A Microphone will also be provided for singing performance.

International Education and Civic Engagement Organization, Inc. (IECEO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving students, immigrants, newcomers, and families in Montgomery County. Hey animal lovers! Get a behind-the-scenes look at Brandywine Valley SPCA and discover how your family can bring comfort to cats and dogs in their care. Your family will help organize the pet food pantry and make pet toys designed to reduce anxiety, slow down fast eaters, and help pets adjust to their new surroundings. Many animals feel overwhelmed in a shelter, while others need extra enrichment to stay happy and healthy. Your work at this project helps animals feel safe, supported, and ready for their forever homes.

Vines and bushes are killing our native trees and plants. Volunteers will use clippers, saws and other hand tools to remove the invasive plants and free the trees. Participants have told us that they can hear the trees thanking them. It's an opportunity to be outside and make a difference for the environment. The activity is open to everyone. Description: At our acclaimed Outdoor Food Distribution located in North Bethesda! Every Saturday So What Else provides free food to over 1,500 people in the parking lot in front of our warehouse with the help of our incredible volunteer team.

Volunteers will help with the following tasks: setting up tables, setting up tents, preparing produce, sorting produce, helping with line control, helping to direct traffic, and more. Volunteers should plan to arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for a quick orientation. Volunteers should be able to stand for long periods, lift large boxes, and do a considerable amount of movement. Volunteers are required to wear closed-toed shoes and clothing they can both move around in and get dirty (NO CROCS ALLOWED). This event is entirely outdoors so please dress accordingly and bring both water and a snack to your shift. This is a great opportunity for SSL hours, and children above 10 can participate as long as their parent/guardian accompanies anyone under 16.

AGE RESTRICTION: This is a great opportunity for children aged 10 and above to participate. A parent or guardian must accompany children aged 10-15, and if they arrive without one, their parent or guardian will be contacted. Volunteers aged 16 and above can participate independently without the presence of a parent or guardian.

5:30 am to 7:00 am: Volunteers will help prepare food boxes to load into cars for our drive-thru distribution and assist with traffic control. (Double Hours are available for individuals participating in the Maryland Community Service Program when volunteering for the Traffic Volunteer position.) (THE DOUBLE IS NOT FOR SSL)

7:00 am to 11:00 am: Volunteers will help load food boxes into cars, assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

10:00 am to 1:00 pm: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes,  assist with breaking down empty boxes, and clean up where needed.

12:00 pm to 3 PM: Volunteers will help load cars with food boxes and assist with clean-up after the distribution has ended.

We encourage you to sign up for any shift, even if you can't stay for the entire time. Simply inform the site lead upon arrival so our team can accommodate your schedule.

After you pull into the lot, please look for the yellow parking spots immediately to your right. You can park in any of the yellow parking spots in the lot. To find our warehouse entrance, look for signs for "Dogtopia" and then keep walking; our warehouse is to the left of Dogtopia, directly around the corner. When you arrive please walk to the outdoor tables and ask for a staff person, then let them know you're there to volunteer.

Birthday Cakes 4 Free Maryland (BC4F) is a nonprofit organization that collects and delivers birthday cakes to financially and socially disadvantaged children and seniors. We are an entirely student run organization!

Anyone can become a volunteer! There is no minimum age requirement. This is a great way to start earning SSL hours in middle school. 

Students bake cakes in their homes. Cakes must meet the container guidelines which are outlined on www.bc4f.org under Volunteer/FAQ. The decoration/flavor/design of your cake(s) is up to you but we would prefer if you could write “Happy Birthday!” on your cake(s). You can make a cake from a cake mix or your favorite recipe. Round, square or rectangle cakes are all okay as long as they are individually and securely boxed, with lids taped for transport. Round cakes must have multiple layers. Single layer 9" round cakes will not earn SSL hours. We also accept cupcakes. Twenty-four cupcakes are equivalent to one cake. Cake requirements are posted on our website.  We DO NOT accept pies or alternative baked goods. ALL decorations MUST be edible. https://www.bc4f.org/faq

Currently, we accept cake donations on one Sunday a month. Our current delivery location is in Rockville near Farmland Elementary School. WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF CAKES DONATED IN ORDER TO ACCOMMODATE MORE VOLUNTEERS. Big Learning® is looking for high school students to volunteer in person in our Silver Spring (Wheaton area) office. Big Learning is preapproved to offer SSL hours to students in Montgomery County Public Schools. Opportunities are available every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10am to 4pm from June 23rd through August 20th. Interested students may sign up for as many shifts as they like but must sign up for at least two consecutive hours at a time.

If you are interested, please fill out the Student Volunteer Application must receive this form with a parent or guardian signature before you can sign up for hours. Email a scanned copy or photo of the form to sciencevolunteer@biglearning.org. Once we have your completed form, you will be emailed the link to a Sign-Up Genius site where you can sign up for the days and times you would like to volunteer. DO NOT SHOW UP UNLESS YOU HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THAT SPECIFIC TIME SLOT USING THE SIGN-UP GENIUS LINK WE EMAIL TO YOU. WE CANNOT ACCOMODATE DROP-INS.

Please be sure your name and contact information (phone number and email) is included in your sign up. We do not have a requirement for the number of hours you work, but we do ask that you come in for a minimum of at least 2 hours at a time. Big Learning® provides after school programming in foreign language and science & engineering during the school year. Volunteers will help us prepare materials for fall programs by sorting, counting, and bundling materials; cutting paper and other materials to size; organizing materials; and other basic office tasks. Any student who is routinely a no-show or who is not able to consistently count the correct bundle size will be removed from the schedule after 1-2 reminders to exercise greater care.

The Big Learning® office is located in Wheaton, two blocks off the Route 9 bus stop at Arcola and Kemp Mill Road. We are not within an easy walking distance to any food options so we encourage volunteers to bring snacks or lunch if they are planning on being here for several hours. There is a break room in our building.

There is a short flight of stairs to our suite, but we have accessible locations on the ground floor of the building where students with mobility issues will be able to participate. Se habla español.  Le français est parlé.

Yard Crew is a student-led volunteer program designed for middle and high school students who want to make a difference in their community while developing valuable leadership skills.

Participants will help plan, organize, and support community events, work alongside other students, and gain hands-on experience in teamwork, communication, responsibility, and problem-solving.

More than just volunteering, Yard Crew provides opportunities for students to take initiative, build meaningful friendships, serve others, and grow as leaders in a fun, supportive, and encouraging environment.

Students can earn SSL hours while making a positive impact and helping create memorable experiences for the community. Whether you are looking to get involved, develop new skills, meet new people, or give back to your community, Yard Crew is a great place to start.

In the middle of August we'll begin another great Coyotes Cross Country season for kids ages 5 to 14 (elementary and middle school kids).  Practice will be every Tuesday and Thursday at Rocky Hill Middle School from 6:00 to 7:30 pm, as well as Sunday afternoons at 2:00 -- somewhere fun -- if we don’t have a meet.  We’ll participate in 6 or 7 local league meets on Sunday afternoons beginning in the middle of September.  Our last regular season meet will likely be early November.  Many of our kids will participate in “post season” which will include a national championship meet in late November or early December.

High school students can earn SSL hours by assisting at practices and/or meets under a lead coach's supervision.  The Junior Coach commitment is super-flexible.  Attend practices/meets as often or as little as you'd like.  We offer a great environment for high school students to both gain coaching experience and serve younger children in the community.  Students will lead warm-up runs, facilitate running drills and stretches, assist with conversational pace runs, and time the kids doing speed workouts.  Are you fast?  You'll likely help with our 13 & 14 year-olds.  Not all that fast?  You'll help with the youngest kids.  Helping kids grow and achieve great things is a very rewarding experience.

What an incredible last couple of seasons we've had. Coyotes Cross Country has been AAU Maryland Team Champions in both boys’ and girls’ divisions, and our 7 & 8 year-old boys were crowned AAU National Champions. We had a team place 3rd at the Cross Country Coaches National Championship in Knoxville, TN, and around 20 of our kids individually placed in the top 25, earning big medals at the national championships. We couldn’t be prouder!

We're so excited to reconnect with many senior centers open for in-person performance now.  YAMS is recruiting volunteers to perform in senior centers around Rockville, Potomac, Silver Spring, and Northern Virginia, etc. If you are interested in sharing your music with seniors, this will be a super exciting experience for you to bring the music and joy to them and also build up your own performance skill.  1-3hr SSL will be issued for each performance at this special period.  Performers will also have chance to get YAMS customized sticker, pin, and t-shirt.

Under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist certified in aquatic therapy, volunteers help create a fun, supportive environment that provides therapeutic recreation and builds confidence in the water.

No experience is necessary—orientation and training are provided. Join us on most Saturday mornings during the school year and experience the joy of helping others while making lasting connections.

Walking a dog is an invaluable contribution to our rescue and makes a HUGE difference for both our team and, most importantly, the dogs. Regular walks provide them with much-needed exercise, mental stimulation, and one-on-one human interaction, all of which help keep them happy, healthy, and engaged. Even a simple sniff walk can mean the world to them!

The Gaithersburg Library is looking for volunteers for our 2026-2027 Teen Advisory Board (TAB)!

TAB plays an essential role in shaping library programs and spaces. Through discussion helping to make sure that the library is providing what our community needs. The Gaithersburg Library TAB meets monthly throughout the school year on the last Thursday of each month from 5 PM to 6 PM, unless otherwise noted.

As a member of the Teen Advisory Board you will:

We would be happy to have you volunteer at the Interfaith Works Clothing Center and Food Pantry.  The Interfaith Works (IW) Clothing Center and Food Pantry distributes clothing, household goods, and food free of charge to clients so they can pay for rent, bills, and other expenses.  Thousands of individuals, businesses, schools, camps, service organizations, and congregations donate time and goods, which make our program possible.  We are proud to provide the link between people in our community who have things they no longer need or want with the people in the community who are in need of the same items.

Volunteer tasks in the Clothing Center include receiving donations as people drop them off, sorting them by type of donation, hanging clothes and restocking sections in the center, and helping to keep the center clean and tidy.  Volunteer tasks in the Food Pantry include restocking the store, helping answer questions that our families have, checking expiration dates on items, and helping keep track of inventory. 

All new volunteers are required to attend a brief orientation session.  Orientation is offered Wednesdays 2:30pm - 4:30PM and Saturdays 8:30 am - 10:30am. You can sign up for orientation here.

Volunteer shifts are available at the Clothing Center and Food Hub Tuesdays-Fridays 8:00am-4:00pm, and Saturdays 8:00am-2:00pm.  When you arrive to volunteer you will be assigned to the Clothing Center or Food Hub as needed.  You can sign up for volunteer shifts here.

We require that volunteers be at least 14 years old.  All volunteers under 18 years of age must have a parent signature to start their hours.  A parent’s signature can be provided on our online form or in person.

The Germantown Historical Society, the Button farm Living History, and a Scout Troop sponsor open air Flea Markets on the first Saturday April through November. Teen volunteers can earn SSL hours by helping with parking within the lot, help buyers carry their purchases, and help to manage the lot and pick up trash -- always in pairs and with adult supervision. Adult volunteers will help with traffic control and supervising the vendors.  The Flea Markets are lots of fun -- you get to meet all kinds of people and dogs, and you get to go around the Market and find your own treasures.

We are seeking compassionate and friendly volunteers to help support activities and provide companionship to our residents in our assisted living community. Volunteers play an important role in bringing joy, connection, and meaningful engagement to the lives of the seniors we serve.

Arts and crafts projects

Music, singing, or performances

Reading, conversation, or friendly visits

Helping with special events, celebrations, and holiday activities

No special experience is required—just a kind heart, patience, and a willingness to spend time with our residents. Flexible scheduling is available, and all volunteers are greatly appreciated and supported by our team. If you enjoy building relationships, giving back to the community, and making a positive impact, we would love to have you join us!

Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) organizes fun events for residents to relax and get to know each other.

On Saturday, June 6, 2-4pm, we're hosting a caregiver appreciation event for all ages at Allium Place in Silver Spring. There will be food, games and crafts so children and adults can have fun, relax and be together.

Meetings are held in the lower level of the University of Maryland extension office, Montgomery County Agricultural History Farm Park, 18410 Muncaster Road, Derwood.

Help us with our awesome Summer Concert Series!

Every Thursday in the summer, we host an outstanding music concert in our outdoor covered Bumper Car Pavilion. We need help setting up the seating, being a presence at the information table, and putting away the seating after each concert. Concerts run 7:30pm to 8:30pm and the full time commitment for volunteering is from 6:30pm to 9pm. SSL hours are available. Opportunity suitable for ages 16 through adult.

Stay Local Saturdays was created to celebrate Clarksburg’s vibrant local community by showcasing small businesses, makers, and community organizations in a welcoming, festive setting. Held on the second Saturday of each month, these themed events connect neighbors with high-quality local products, creative experiences, and family-friendly fun. Our goal is to support and spotlight local talent while creating meaningful opportunities for vendors and partners, and memorable gatherings that invite the community to shop local, connect, and celebrate all that Clarksburg has to offer.

What will I be doing? Volunteers will help create a positive and organized experience for everyone attending the event. Responsibilities may include helping with set-up and clean-up, greeting guests, assisting with activities, supporting local vendors or booths, helping families navigate the event, and making sure activity areas stay clean and welcoming. Volunteers may also help answer questions and assist event leaders throughout the day as needed.

The Clarksburg Farmers Market is a fun and welcoming community event where local families, students, and neighbors come together to support local vendors and enjoy time together outdoors. Throughout the market, visitors can explore fresh produce, handmade items, baked goods, local businesses, games, and activities for all ages. Our mission is to create a space that encourages community connection while supporting local farmers and small businesses.

What will I be doing? Volunteers will help create a welcoming and organized environment for guests and vendors throughout the market. Responsibilities may include helping with set-up and clean-up, assisting vendors, running games and activities for kids, greeting guests, helping with directions, and supporting the overall flow of the event. Volunteers may also help keep activity areas clean, organized, and engaging for families attending the market.

Participants will collect litter and recyclables along 1.5 miles Wightman Road. Students can earn SSL hours. We’ll meet at the corner of Prathertown and Wightman Road.

Impact

Prathertown is a neighborhood in Gaithersburg originally founded in 1883 by emancipated people. It has a long and deep rooted history that is evident today in Prathertown's many artifacts and historical homes. By volunteering, you will be contributing to the health of Prathertown’s environment and reducing litter. 

By collecting and removing litter from Prathertown, the animals benefit from a cleaner, safer habitat that helps protect them from pollution, injury, and contaminated food sources.

We are looking for volunteers to help with our Mobile FARMacy Markets! Community FarmShare runs mobile FARMacy markets at 9 different locations throughout Montgomery County from June to November. In 2026 we have 4 markets in Silver Spring, 2 in Gaithersburg, 1 in Germantown, 1 in Montgomery Village, and 1 in Rockville. Volunteers are needed to help our CFS staff set up and close down the market, restock the tables, hand out info/resources and generally be a welcoming, supportive, engaging team member to provide a positive experience in the community. We have boys from 2nd grade to 10th and girls from 4th grade to 8th grade. We are looking fro volunteers aged 13-18. Games usually run from around 8am-7pm with volunteers coming at least 10 minutes before game time. No experience needed we will teach you everything you need to know. Volunteers assist with the Learn to Swim program at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. Volunteers work as an instructor's aid and are paired up in the pool with paid instructors. They also help take attendance, set out the kickboards, diving rings, and lifejackets and help put away the swim equipment after lessons. Volunteers must be able to demonstrate the swimming skills for the level they are working with. A time commitment of 7-8 weeks is required.

Students will need to complete sections 1 and 3 of MCPS Form 560-51 in full. In lieu of section 2 of MCPS Form 560-51, students should attach the “SSL Hour Form” completed and provided to the student by the City of Rockville supervisor.

Opportunity to help during Annual Turkish Festival in DC. 

The Annual Turkish Festival is a long-standing community event, and this year we will be celebrating its 24th year. It is one of the largest cultural festivals in Washington, DC. Each year, the festival is supported by more than 100 volunteers, including a core group of approximately 60–70 returning volunteers.

The festival runs from early morning through the evening. The opportunity is mostly structured around 4-hour shifts. Some volunteer for one shift, while others may volunteer for two shifts.

Student volunteers assist with a variety of festival-related service activities, including children’s tent activities, tea and coffee service, guest hospitality, volunteer check-in, stage area support, setup, breakdown, arranging tables and chairs, and general festival logistics.

Volunteer Roles (SSL-Compliant)

Volunteers with the Ethiopian Eritrean Special Needs Community (EESNC) support children, youth, and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, as well as their families, through structured, supervised, and community-based activities.

All volunteer activities are conducted under the direct supervision of an EESNC staff member in public or designated program settings to ensure safety and compliance with SSL requirements.

All volunteer service is designed to be meaningful, structured, and developmentally supportive while maintaining full compliance with MCPS SSL guidelines.

Please note the following guidelines for student service through live virtual platforms:

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering.

Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform.

Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times.

The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur.

Virtual sessions will not be recorded.

Students should not share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves, unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release.

Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not shared.

At Re’s Kids Club children 4-10 years old can join us on select Saturdays throughout the academic year to experience the magic of Camp Levine in one afternoon. This drop-off “mini-camp” gives children the chance to explore multiple art forms—including hands-on instruction with two different instruments. Pizza dinner is provided!

Re’s Kids Club is looking for three responsible, mature Teen Apprentices to join us for the afternoon! Teen Apprentices will support teachers in the classroom and help guide and encourage kids in each activity. Teen Apprentices should be available for prep and the duration of the event, from 4:00–7:30 PM.

We have a Reggio Emilia inspired summer program for children ages 2-5 years. Volunteers are needed to assist educators with daily activities for children, such as art, music, water play, story time, sports and movement, and more. Volunteer hours are from 9am to 1pm.

We are currently accepting volunteers for this summers program which starts in June of 2026. More details to follow.

Help teachers and support children throughout the day. This may include setting up and cleaning up activities, assisting before and after water play, helping with transitions, and supporting camp-wide events. Always follow the teachers’ lead—if you’re unsure, ask. Be kind, calm, and helpful. Phones should stay out of sight.

Please stay actively involved with the children. Sitting off to the side is discouraged. You can read stories, play with children, help during outdoor time, and assist teachers as needed. Weekly assignments will be given on your first day.

We work with children ages 2–5. Interact in age-appropriate ways and help keep children safe at all times. Maintain respectful physical boundaries—do not pick up children, carry them, or have them sit on your lap. You will never be asked to change diapers or clothes.

Camp runs 9:00 AM–1:00 PM. Please arrive by 9:00 AM for a brief meeting.
Location: 8300 Meadowbrook Lane, Chevy Chase. Enter through the main entrance and go to the library.

Dress for indoor and outdoor activities. Clothes may get wet or dirty. Wear sunscreen. Bring sandals for water play.

You may eat with the children from 12:30–1:00 PM. Bring nut-free, vegetarian or pescatarian food (fish okay; no shellfish). Bring a water bottle.

We are a pre-approved Montgomery County SSL site. You are responsible for tracking your hours and completing your form. I will sign it once finished.

So What Else is looking for committed, responsible, and motivated high schoolers (rising 9th - rising 12th graders) to serve as Co-Instructors to help develop and implement curriculum for the Student Leadership Institute (SLI) for middle schoolers. SLI will be led by an MCPS certified teacher and up to 5 HSCs will be present for each 3-day session.

HSCs should have experience in the following areas so they can effectively assist middle school campers with:

Those selected will serve as HSCs for the sessions listed below:

Session 1 and Session 2: Tuesday 7/28 - Thursday 7/30

Session 3 and Session 4: Tuesday 8/4 - Thursday 8/6

For the dates above, HSC hours will be one of the following:

1/2 day AM 8:30-12:30

1/2 day PM 12:45-4:45

Full day 8:30-4:45 (30 min lunch break)

*Can earn up to 54 SSL hours if selected for all SLI sessions

In addition to being available for their entire SLI session(s), HSCs must be available to develop curriculum with the SLI Program Manager prior to the program. Only ONE absence will be permitted for the following curriculum planning meetings:

Harvest Intercontinental Church in Olney, Maryland serves the mid county region providing food and other vital services to residents every week. Play a vital role and make an impact on 550 families in the mid county region by serving on Fridays sorting and packing supplies in preparation for Saturday distribution.  This is a great opportunity for those who can only serve in the evening hours!   

Help is needed on Fridays between 3:30pm – 6pm to  sort supplies and bag food for Saturday pickup. Tasks may include moving food from pallet to shelves/bags, setting up tables, signing in/signing out site volunteers.  Note this is an IN-PERSON activity held indoors.

The Gaithersburg Library is looking for teen volunteers for our yearly Summer Reading Program. Volunteers are vital to making sure we have a superb summer full of fun opportunities for all ages!

There are two types of volunteer options this summer.

Desk Volunteer: Two-hour hour shifts, available seven days a week. You will sit at a table in the Children's Area of the library and help children and teens sign up for summer reading, hand out prizes, and answer questions about the Summer Reading Challenge.

Program Volunteer: Three-hour shifts, available Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. Program volunteers will assist with the running of programs for children-teens. 'Programs' are library events that are free and open to the public; they are organized and run by library staff and can range from playing with Legos and doing crafts to movie showings and live performances. Volunteering in this position includes helping to set-up, clean-up, and interacting with the program participants.

Warrior Canine Connection is a non-profit organization which breeds, raises and trains dogs with the assistance of Veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI), or mobility issues. These dogs are eventually placed as service dogs for Wounded Warriors, military family support dogs, or facility dogs for Veteran Organizations. We are actively seeking volunteers to serve as Puppy Parents for future service dogs in training and would love for Montgomery County youth to co-raise with their parent or guardian.

For the duration of their training, WCC pups live in Puppy Raiser's homes. In addition to any training the dogs do with Warriors, they are constantly working on their skills in a home environment and at training sessions at WCC. 

Puppy Raisers train our service dogs for 4 to 20 months before the dogs graduate and are placed with their forever Veteran. Each puppy goes home with his or her Puppy Parent between the ages of 8-12 weeks. As a youth co-raiser, you can earn 1 SSL hour for each day that you have the dog and take an active role in its training and healthcare (This is not a dog fostering program).  In order to demonstrate this you must attend weekly trainings, complete monthly progress reports, submit the daily reflective journal every 12 weeks, and bring your dog to Head Quarters in Germantown when necessary.  If not all parts are completed, the student will only earn a portion of the hours based on their involvement.  This is a big responsibility, but it will be so rewarding.  Not only can you earn SSL hours, but you will be serving the Veteran community, learning how to train a dog, and this experience will look amazing on college resumes.
