Volunteer: History Makers of Prathertown Event SupportJoin us on February 28, 2026 from 1:00–4:30 pm at the Gaithersburg Public Library Medium Room 3 for our History Makers of Prathertown event. This special program celebrates the legacy and people of Prathertown, a historic African American community founded in 1883 and among the first of its kind in Maryland. We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help make this community-centered event a success. Volunteer Roles Include: Loading and unloading supplies from vehicles Assisting with guest escort and check-in. Distributing signs, information sheets, and handouts. Setting up refreshments and snacks for participants. Important Details: Some tasks may involve standing, kneeling, or light lifting. All materials and instructions will be provided. Please bring your own reusable water bottle and snacks Breaks and SSL forms will be provided. Volunteer Requirements: Attention to detail. Strong communication skills and tech skills. Positive and community-minded attitude. Volunteers will assist with event activities at the Gaithersburg Public Library, located at 18330 Montgomery Village Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD 20879, and help guide residents with directions or questions. Activity stations will include: MLK Day Trivia Assembling care packages for the unhoused Collecting Soup for Souper Saturday Decorating onesies for infants Participating in MLK-themed trivia and games Creating cards, buttons, and blankets for children Modeling clay formations Please select one or both shifts: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.– Load supplies, greet guests and students, monitor service activities, and oversee the refreshment area. 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. – Escort guests, monitor service activities, run service stations, and provide general event support. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own food and water. Breaks will be included, and SSL forms will be provided. Feel free to bring a can of soup for Super Saturday, where we donate a can of soup to those in need. We are also collecting donation items including personal hygiene, laundry, and food products.
