The following volunteer opportunities are available: Making Strides of Washington DC Day of Event Volunteer Duties 1. Pre-set up : Friday, October 25th 6pm to 8pm 2. Registration Tent – All volunteer opportunities below ae on October 26th a. Responsibilities: Take donation envelopes, help people with the QR Code b. Able to participate in walk c. Shift time: 7:30 am – 10:30 am 3. Refreshment Tent a. Responsibilities: Hand out water, granola bars, and fruit before and after the walk b. Not able to participate in walk c. Shift time: 7:30 am – 10 am 4. Ribbon Wall Volunteer a. Responsibilities: Help people write the names on their ribbon and tie them on the Wall of Hope b. Not able to participate in walk c. Shift time: 8 am – 11 am 5. Water Station a. Responsibilities: Handing out water at the water stations along walk route, cheering walk participants on. See walk route for water station placement. b. Not able to participate in walk c. Shift time: 8 am – 11 am – Leave for water stations at 8:30! 6. Survivor Tent a. Responsibilities: Handing out Survivor Shirts and donuts / bagels at the Survivor Tent b. Able to participate in walk c. Shift time: 8 am – 11 am 7. Post Walk Break-Down a. Responsibilities: Help break down the event after walk participants leave (includes various tasks such as taking down all decorations, putting all event items back into boxes, loading moving truck, etc.) b. Able to participate in the walk c. Volunteer: American Cancer Society Road to Recovery Driver in Montgomery CountyRoad To Recovery is an American Cancer Society program designed to help improve the quality of life and reduce barriers to care for cancer patients undergoing active treatment by transporting them to and from cancer-related treatment appointments. The Road To Recovery Volunteer driver can help provide people with transportation to and from their cancer-related treatment appointments. Drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help ensure that people with cancer get the treatments they need. Volunteer drivers are also there to show support and provide information and resource referrals coordinated through the American Cancer Society. Most rides are needed during Monday - Friday, primarily between 7 am and 7 pm. Drivers should have regular availability during that time frame.
Responsibilities include: Complete necessary Road To Recovery training and updates. Follows program guidelines and maintains required volunteer eligibility requirements. Utilizes Service Match to manage availability and ride requests. Coordinates with the patient at least one to two days prior to the accepted ride request and provides ride as agreed upon. Completes all necessary transportation documentation information. Reports all changes with contact information, availability, insurance coverage and driving eligibility to the Society in a timely manner. Reports traffic accidents and violations to the Society within 24 hours of occurrence. Abides by the Society’s privacy and confidentiality policies.
Volunteer Driver Qualifications Drivers must be between the ages of 18 and 84 and have: A good driving record A current driver's license Proof of adequate automobile insurance Access to a safe and reliable vehicle Schedule availability Regular desktop, laptop, or tablet computer access
