Volunteer: Oral History & Archives at the Chevy Chase Historical Society

Are you passionate about history and community? The Chevy Chase Historical Society is looking for dedicated volunteers to help us preserve the rich history of our area through our Oral History collection and archival center!

What you can do:

Oral History Interviews: Assist in collecting stories from residents by conducting interviews. Learn how to ask the right questions to gather personal narratives and historical memories.Transcription: Help transcribe recorded interviews to make them accessible for future generations. This is a great opportunity to improve your listening and writing skills while contributing to an important project. Archive Assistance: Work hands-on with historical objects, learning how they are preserved and cataloged. Help us maintain and organize items. Discover how museums and archives manage artifacts from the past.

Requirements:

Interest in history, storytelling, and archival work.No prior experience is necessary--just a passion for learning and helping!

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian and must be completed outside of school hours in a public space under direct supervision of the nonprofit organization. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns.
