Youth Gun Violence Prevention Summit
May 9, 2026 (10:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) Calling all students in grades 8-12! Join us on Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 10:30am to 4:30pm to learn about how you can help end youth gun violence. Attendees will receive lunch and earn six (6) SSL hours as a result of your participation. You will hear from experts on mental health, gun violence prevention, Stop the Bleed campaign, and other useful tips in combating youth gun violence in Montgomery County. Delegate Pam Queen's Living Organ Donor Video Contest - Contest Ends 3/31/26 Create a 60-second video promoting the importance of living organ donations!  Learn more at www.organdonor.gov Students who submit a quality video entry to the contest will earn 10 SSL hours. Students will be awarded SSL hours in May of 2026 if their submission meets all of the contest requirements. Students, please DO NOT respond to this opportunity -- all middle and high school students may participate in this competition by following the rules and guidelines below. Contest Rules:

Your video must address living organ donor awareness and best practicesYour video must also include some elements of an interview with a medical professional who has worked with living organ recipients or donors.Entries must have a title Entries must be 50-60 seconds in length (not including the title/credit slides) Entries can be individual or a team (up to 5 members) Each student participating in the contest must be listed on the entry form One entry per team or individual. Students may enter as an Individual or as a team of up to 5 students from the same school. If a student in any way participates in more than one video, all of those entries will be disqualified. No professional assistance No use of copyrighted material is allowed, including background music Entries must not contain inappropriate or explicit images nor the use of profanityVideo submissions will be accepted in both English and Spanish languages All submissions must be uploaded to Google Drive, Drop Box, YouTube, or a similar program and a link must be provided on the entry form All STUDENTS must submit by 3/31/26, and those who do will receive 10 SSL hours in May!

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. This service activity is designed to be completed within the safety of the student’s home.

Choose Respect RespectFest 
(Virtual and In-Person) March 8-15, 2026 Join us all week to learn about healthy relationships, dating violence prevention and consent, and resources in the community! Students may earn up to 5 SSL hours for attending virtual workshops, completing activities, and participating in follow-up advocacy action from March 8-15, 2026. Students may also earn up to 3 SSL hours for attending the in-person RespectFest festival on March 15, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. at the Wheaton Community Recreation Center. Students, please DO NOT respond to this opportunity. All students may participate and earn up to 5 SSL hours virtually and up to 3 SSL hours in-person during RespectFest by following the directions posted at https://tinyurl.com/mocorespectfest 

MCPS National History Day
March 7, 2026 (8 a.m. - 2 p.m.) High School Students 18+ we need you! MCPS is looking for HS students 18+, to judge student projects at the National History Day County Competition on Saturday, March 7, 2026! Students will earn 6 SSL hours and will be provided lunch on the day of the event.  
When: Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. (This is a 6 hour SSL opportunity.) Where: Sligo MS (1401 Dennis Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20902) Who: For HS student volunteers 18+ Lunch will be provided!

MCPS High School Assistants Needed for 6th Grade Outdoor Education Program

Many middle schools seek high school volunteers to assist with their Grade 6 Outdoor Education program, and the schools listed on the Google form linked below have asked for assistance in identifying potential assistants to work with them during Outdoor Ed. 

High school assistants who are selected to support a middle school will accompany middle school students and staff to one of the three sites MCPS utilizes for a 3-day, 2-night program and will assist with supervision, instruction, and activities throughout that program. 

There is no cost for high school assistants to participate, meals are provided, and assistants will have dedicated study time each day. High school assistants will need to submit a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian and must also receive permission from their teachers and administrators to participate.

High school assistants can earn up to 16 SSL hours through their work as an Outdoor Education Assistant. 

Please note: By submitting the form below, you are expressing your interest in serving as an Outdoor Education Assistant; it does not indicate that you have been selected to fill that role. Please note that the interest form only lists Outdoor Education sessions for the first few months of the school year and will be updated quarterly.
