Volunteer: Support Stickers for Cancer Patients

Founded by a three-time cancer survivor, Kits to Heart is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that gives curated cancer care kits to patients and their loved ones. Our mission is to bring smiles and solidarity to those affected by cancer, one kit at a time.

Help bring cheer and motivation to cancer patients by creating custom stickers with positive messages and illustrations to be used as decorations for our cancer care kits. These stickers will serve as small but impactful tokens of encouragement, designed to uplift the spirits of those undergoing treatment.

How to Get Started

Brainstorm and create designs that incorporate positive messages, such as "You Are Strong," "Keep Fighting," and "Stay Positive," alongside uplifting illustrations like sunflowers, clouds, ocean themes, and smiling faces.  Please NO "get well soon", "keep growing", "shine", or other messages that may unintentionally cause discomfort. As with our other service projects, you are welcome to work from the comfort of your home, with your colleagues at the office, or with your friends at school! Use digital and/or traditional art techniques to draw and create the designs. If digital, the stickers should be printed on high-quality adhesive paper or using the tutorials below. For those seeking service hours, designs may only be repeated for hand-drawn stickers, not digital designs. Simple vs. complex: We defer to YOUR judgment, as it depends on how long it takes for you to design and cut out a sticker. If it takes about 20 minutes per sticker, due to thoughtful hand-drawn designs, coloring, text, shape, etc., then we would consider it complex. If it only takes about 10 minutes per sticker, with a smiley and text, for example, then that would be considered simple. Limits: We really hope for volunteers to focus less on quantity and more on quality, so while there is no limit, we do highly encourage quality to show patients we care with thoughtful artwork and text. Using pre-cut sticker labels: Creative designs and messages on pre-cut sticker labels may be eligible for 1 service hour per 10 designs. Using wax paper: We are no longer accepting stickers made on wax/parchment paper. Please consider using inexpensive sticker paper options below, such as these sticker sheets that can be cut into any shape and peeled more easily. Once completed, follow the submission steps here. They will then be distributed to cancer patients in hospitals, treatment centers, and support groups through Kits to Heart's cancer care kits.

Volunteer: 2025 Kentlands Mansion Community Tree

Spread holiday cheer by adding an ornament to our Community Tree.  The Tree will go up at the Kentlands Mansion in December.  This event is open to all ages. One ornament=1 SSL hour, with a maximum of two ornaments. Ornament supplies can be purchased on your own, or select supplies are available at the Kentlands Mansion. The Kentlands Mansion will post tutorials on their social media pages to create ornaments with materials most people have at home. Ornaments are due NLT Dec 19th at 4:00 p.m.

All Ornaments:

Must include an ornament hook, ribbon or loop to hang it on the tree Must be able to withstand the weather (i.e. cannot be made of food items) Must be shatterproof (i.e. no glass ornaments will be accepted) Must be able to demonstrate art processes and incorporate different art supplies (ex: paint, sculpture, drawing, printing, markers, acrylics, etc) Must be secular in nature - no religious references or materials Must not contain profanity or explicit imagery Must not contain food elements, glass, sharp objects or candles

Ornaments can be dropped off anytime Monday-Friday / 9 am – 4 pm December 1 to December 19 at Kentlands Mansion.  If you want to drop the ornaments off outside of office hours, our tree is located in the garden (December only!). You MUST take a picture and send it to us, so we can confirm the ornament is there. E-mail your name, grade and school with a picture of your ornament to  Jennie.Stroup@gaithersburgmd.gov for SSL hours.

To address the acute illiteracy crisis among early elementary school students, we are recruiting adult & high school volunteers for one-on-one tutoring with 2nd graders from October to May on Tuesdays, Wednesdays,  and Thursdays, from 5:30 - 7:00 pm at three locations: Montgomery Village, Gaithersburg, and Germantown.  Volunteers can sign up for one or two nights/week.  No prior experience is required.  Only a background check and participation in a 4-hour orientation session.  Tutors are at least 21 years old.  Readers are at least 16 years old.  We need both!  Help us get these kids back up to grade level!!  If you would like to sign up, go HERE.

Our Virtual Service Policy

Developers will create educational materials for natural sciences curricula. This includes slide presentations, example activities, and extension activities. The Natural Sciences Education Department may also host educational events and competitions, including but not limited to guest speaker seminars, pitch contests, and remote lab activities, for which developers are permitted to instruct.

 

Quality work must be submitted before the deadline and done in a professional manner. Students will earn hour-for-hour the amount of time serving when they are directly supervised, as well as limited additional hours per week for asynchronous tasks they are assigned to.

Service hours are defined as the time volunteers spend completing tasks assigned by their director in furthering the mission of Elevate the Future Maryland—working to achieve business and STEM literacy for all. Service hours are tracked by our directors, who review the submitted evidence, maintain a log, verify student service on MCPS Form 560-51 (Student Service Learning Activity Verification)

 

Please note the following guidelines for student service through live virtual platforms:

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering. Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform. Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times. The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur. Virtual sessions will not be recorded. Students will not be asked to share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release. Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not be shared.

About the Role QUALIFICATIONS Grades 8 - 12 in MCPS high school, home school, or private school. Any one of the following: 1) education in the social sciences (i.e., AP Micro/Macroeconomics, high school economics, financial literacy, or business courses) OR 2) experience in business or entrepreneurship OR 3) experience in teaching/tutoring students. OR 4) interest in business in general. Willing to contribute up to (2) hours per week. Interested in curriculum/competition development or teaching business concepts.

Initial appointment rank upon selection is commensurate with knowledge and experience. Volunteers with one year of active, high-quality service to Elevate the Future Maryland will automatically be promoted to Level 2 (senior) rank.

Our Virtual Service Policy

Developers will create educational materials for business curricula. This includes slide presentations, example activities, and extension activities. The Business Education Department may also host educational events and competitions, including but not limited to guest speaker seminars, pitch contests, and entrepreneurship-oriented summer camps, for which developers are permitted to instruct.

 

Quality work must be submitted before the deadline and done in a professional manner. Students will earn hour-for-hour the amount of time serving when they are directly supervised, as well as limited additional hours per week for asynchronous tasks they are assigned to.

Service hours are defined as the time volunteers spend completing tasks assigned by their director in furthering the mission of Elevate the Future Maryland—working to achieve business and computer literacy for all. Service hours are tracked by our directors, who review the submitted evidence, maintain a log, verify student service on MCPS Form 560-51 (Student Service Learning Activity Verification), and submit them to President of Elevate the Future, Kathleen Li.

 

Please note the following guidelines for student service through live virtual platforms:

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering. Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform. Choose When You Tutor One Hour, Twice a Week

The STEMx Tutors program is designed for busy professionals like you. As a STEMx Tutor, you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. EnCorps utilizes a 2:1 or 1:1 student-to-tutor ratio. 


As a 2:1 tutor, tutoring sessions take place for one hour, at the same time, twice a week between 12:00 - 5:30 p.m. PST. In turn, the 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student


We ask that you commit to tutoring for a minimum of one semester with the option to renew. Many of our tutors have been in the program for four years.

EnCorps provides its volunteer tutors with training and support. Your dedicated Program Coordinator will provide you access to our Google Classroom where you will find a plethora of resources, invite you to online seminars, and offer the option to join our annual Learning Summit where you can network with other tutors as well as STEM professional who are exploring STEM teaching through the EnCorps STEM Teachers program.


Program Eligibility

EnCorps STEMx Tutors must meet the following requirements:  


Have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (does not have to be in a STEM field) and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM industry work experience or have an advanced degree in a STEM field

Junior or senior in a college-accredited STEM bachelor’s program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher

Hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands-on STEM work experience

A current or former credentialed math teacher


All candidates must also be eligible to work in the US and currently live in the US

The new Culinary Skills Training Program provides community members facing multiple barriers, such as low wages, a lack of real-life skills, or a lack of opportunities, with a path to pursue a career in the food service industry.  Students attend 12 weeks of culinary and life skills training, followed by a 4-week externship.  Volunteers will assist culinary skills students with job search skills including resumes and online applications. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

·                  Teaching, training, or facilitation experience, particularly with adults

·                  2 years' experience working with adults who have had a wide variety of life experiences

·                  Empathy, patience, flexibility

·                  Experience assisting unemployed or underemployed adults with resume development and job search skills.

A student’s parent/guardian must provide the nonprofit with written approval of the student’s participation in the virtual platform prior to the student serving/volunteering. Students must use personal/private accounts (not MCPS student accounts) to engage in the virtual platform. Students will only engage with others under the direct supervision of a nonprofit supervisor. The nonprofit supervisor will be directly present in the virtual space (including any breakout sessions) at all times. The nonprofit supervisor will initiate and host all virtual sessions. If the nonprofit supervisor is not available to initiate and host the virtual session, the session will not occur. Virtual sessions will not be recorded. Students should not share or upload any videos, pictures, or images of themselves, unless the nonprofit organization has obtained a signed form/waiver from the student’s parent/guardian authorizing permission/release. Students’ email addresses/home addresses or any personally identifying information will remain protected and not shared.

Regarding how we will track and verify SSL hours:

--- Students will track their volunteer hours by making a copy of the following template. The document must be titled following the template - (ex: “John Smith_2021-2022 Time Collection”). On the first row list your full name. On the second row, please state if you are applying for the PVSA award.

--- After each class, document the date, the duration and the preparation time of the class. The default total class preparation time is the same as the duration of the class. (Ex. If your class is 40 minutes long, you enter 40 minutes for the class preparation). 

--- If your preparation time is more than the default time, PLE and all its staff reserve the right to view your lesson plans. After reviewing all materials you created in preparation and a possible interview, we determine if the preparation time logged is appropriate or if it should be adjusted based on length, amount, and quality of material. We generally do not award more than 2 hours of preparation time. You will retain copyright over your plans. 

--- Any orientation, training and meeting times will also be counted toward your volunteer time. Please enter the event name, date, and duration. Please be aware preparation time is not applicable to this circumstance (ex: New faculty online orientation, 4/21/2010, 1 hour). 

--- We will send certificates of verified volunteer hours and complete volunteer forms (SSL, NHS, etc.) upon request. 

--- All other forms of volunteering (eg. advertisement, management, newsletter writing, general curriculum development) will be tracked on an hour-for-hour basis the amount of time served when supervised. If items are completed without live supervision, they are reviewed on a case by case basis. Most curriculum development, newsletters, and proposals written will be awarded 1-2 hours, based on length and quality.

Student participation in this service project is at the discretion of the student’s parent/guardian. The nonprofit organization is responsible for maintaining student safety and privacy at any time the student is interacting with the nonprofit and its clients. The nonprofit organization will determine the number of SSL hours awarded based on the evidence submitted. Parents/guardians should contact the nonprofit directly with any questions and/or concerns. Create recorded content for older adults to enjoy. Many of these older adults are aging in place or isolated. Content must be family-friendly and will be available for older adult clients to view. 

Videos will provide opportunities for learning, enjoyment, and entertainment and could genuinely make people’s day and improve mood and overall quality of life.

We Need Your Help! A Call for Creative, Recorded Video Content for our Clients

One wonderful way that volunteers can get involved in supporting our senior clients is by providing recorded video content to add to our video library. Many of our clients are aging in place and it helps stimulate them to utilize media platforms for entertainment, enrichment, and lifelong learning. One of our goals is to continue to expand our library of recorded content for our clients. Please review this entire document carefully for requirements and how the process works. I have included some tips and tutorials under the resources section. We appreciate your time and consideration of doing this!

Required Guidelines, Policies and Filming Suggestions-Please Review

Appropriate/Professional content: All videos must be appropriately and professionally created. Please make sure all visual content and spoken word content is done in good taste. Please make sure it is family friendly content.

 

Please make sure that the following is followed:

 

-Speak clearly, enunciate, and speak a bit slower than you normally do. Providing some pauses in between topics or portions of your presentation can help the viewer digest the information.

 

-Please do not share your last name or any additional personal information about yourself or anyone else during your videos. For example, if you are narrating or leading a video you could say, “Hi, my name is (your first name) and today I will show you around (name of location).”

 

-Please do not just speak to the camera. Options to enhance your video include showing the camera objects, sharing your screen to display text and visuals, showing the camera scenic views/displays, etc.

 

-Please make sure your sound levels are good and you have good lighting. Filming outdoors if audio levels are ok can help with the quality of the lighting.

 

-These videos are better if done generically, so that people can view them anytime. No need to mention the date you are filming, events that are upcoming, or any possible limiting factors like that. Keep things generic, broad and open-ended, and focus on the task at hand of entertaining and informing the viewer.

 

Quality Equipment/recording tips: All videos must be taken using quality equipment. Videos cannot be blurry. Some examples of devices you can use to capture content include your smartphone, a video camera, a tablet, or your computer. Please make sure the device you are using when filming has sufficient battery charge. Please make sure your fingers do not cover the camera lens when you are filming. One option is to place your recording device on a holder or flat surface so the camera is steady and not moving around as much.

 

 

Please record your video in full screen mode (no widescreen please). If using a smartphone to record your content, please make sure that you turn your phone sideways before starting your recording. Turning the phone sideways (the example I’m thinking of is with an iPhone) will make sure your video is recorded in full screen mode (and will not have widescreen bars on the sides of it).

 

Participants: If you are recording a video with more people in it than just you, please make sure others who are participating in the video are aware of what it will be used for, are ok with the purpose of this video being created, and follow the guidelines listed here.

 

 

Limiting Visual & Audio Distractions: If recording your video in a public setting (such as a park, a museum, etc.) please do your best to record the video in a quieter, less crowded space. In some situations, it may not be possible to have other people who are visiting this venue out of your shot. What we want is for you to find an area where your voice can still be heard clearly and where others who are visiting the same attraction do not take away from the main message and focus of your video. Please silence other devices like your phone during filming to limit any distractions. When filming your video and using your phone, please turn on airplay mode (or do not disturb) so that you won’t receive calls, texts, or other distracting notifications while filming. Please limit any possible distractions so you are focused and others who may be nearby don’t interrupt you from creating your great project.

 

Videos can be done in a variety of ways. If you prefer to create a visual picture slideshow that syncs up with the audio that you recorded, that works fine. The key is creating sensory stimulating content that has both pictures (moving or still) and words/music/etc.

 

Music usage and copywriting If you choose to use music in your video, please make sure it is your own original music. If you play music that is by a known artist, YouTube may not allow you to upload the content due to copywrite restrictions. You can sing or perform your own versions of music. If you use iMovie or other video editing programs, you can use the soundtracks available in the iMovie program, which are generic audio selections that could enhance your video.

Please note: we cannot guarantee that every video submission will be used.

 

Video Recording and Submission Process:

Make a plan for your video. Practice, as needed. When you are ready, record your video.

 

Review and edit your video. Film another take if needed. Make any changes or technical edits you need to make. Make sure the video flows nicely please. We aren’t expecting submissions to be Oscar worthy, but we do want these to be well thought out with care and consideration. One example of a program you can use for enhancing/editing if using an apple product is iMovie. There are several tutorials available online to help with the basics of editing on iMovie. Here is a good iMovie tutorial! There are also other simplistic movie editors on smartphones, and another on PC computers is called video editor. Again, you don’t have to be a professional to do this, these types of editing programs are pretty basic and easy to use.

 

Upload your video to YouTube (choose unlisted as your sharing option please. Unlisted means it will not post publicly online and only those who you share the link with directly will be able to view it). Submit your video link and your signed media release form to the Volunteer Coordinator by emailing Gabe at gpinkney@jssa.org

Click on “subtitles” on the left side of your screen and find the video you have uploaded. Underneath the languages column click on downward arrow, click on that and click on the language you want the subtitles to be in Click on “duplicate and edit” on the right side You will see the subtitles that YouTube generated from your video on the left side. Take a few minutes to proofread the subtitles to make sure they were written correctly and that there aren’t any spelling errors. Please correct the spelling errors as best you can. Please feel free to add some punctuation too because no punctuation is automatically generated. Start your video and make sure that the written captions match the exact areas when you are speaking. Once done with your editing, click the blue link at the top of the page that says “assign timings” You can do some more edits if you would like, but YouTube auto captioning does a very nice job overall of doing captions accurately. When done editing, click on blue “publish” button

Video Categories, Topics and Ideas:

Here are some options for types of videos you can create.

PET TALKS: Kids can create and share short documentaries about their pets. Education is provided as information about the animal (breed, diet, exercise). For seniors this would engage their memory process to think about pets they had growing up (or have now), while providing educational and soothing material. (please make sure video is approximately 5 minutes long).

WALKING TOURS: Could be done by people of all ages, including high school and college students. Create walking tours featuring a town, local history, an art gallery, museum, and/or some type of attraction. Information about the history of the location or unique insight about what is being shown is key. If at a museum, selections from the display placards could be read. Option to create a recorded lecture for a class project/teaching opportunity/subject that you have knowledge or expertise in. Slides, pictures, clips, etc. are strongly encouraged to be utilized by the presenter. (10-45 minutes long).

-History lesson

-Guided meditation or sound meditation

Create recorded content for older adults to enjoy. Many of these older adults are aging in place or isolated. Content must be family-friendly and will be available for older adult clients to view. 

Videos will provide opportunities for learning, enjoyment, and entertainment and could genuinely make people’s day and improve mood and overall quality of life.

We Need Your Help! A Call for Creative, Recorded Video Content for our Clients

One wonderful way that volunteers can get involved in supporting our senior clients is by providing recorded video content to add to our video library. Many of our clients are aging in place and it helps stimulate them to utilize media platforms for entertainment, enrichment, and lifelong learning. One of our goals is to continue to expand our library of recorded content for our clients. Please review this entire document carefully for requirements and how the process works. I have included some tips and tutorials under the resources section. We appreciate your time and consideration of doing this!

Required Guidelines, Policies and Filming Suggestions-Please Review

Appropriate/Professional content: All videos must be appropriately and professionally created. Please make sure all visual content and spoken word content is done in good taste. Please make sure it is family friendly content.

 

Please make sure that the following is followed:

 

-Speak clearly, enunciate, and speak a bit slower than you normally do. Providing some pauses in between topics or portions of your presentation can help the viewer digest the information.

 

-Please do not share your last name or any additional personal information about yourself or anyone else during your videos. For example, if you are narrating or leading a video you could say, “Hi, my name is (your first name) and today I will show you around (name of location).”

 

-Please do not just speak to the camera. Options to enhance your video include showing the camera objects, sharing your screen to display text and visuals, showing the camera scenic views/displays, etc.

 

-Please make sure your sound levels are good and you have good lighting. Filming outdoors if audio levels are ok can help with the quality of the lighting.

 

-These videos are better if done generically, so that people can view them anytime. No need to mention the date you are filming, events that are upcoming, or any possible limiting factors like that. Keep things generic, broad and open-ended, and focus on the task at hand of entertaining and informing the viewer.

 

Quality Equipment/recording tips: All videos must be taken using quality equipment. Videos cannot be blurry. Some examples of devices you can use to capture content include your smartphone, a video camera, a tablet, or your computer. Please make sure the device you are using when filming has sufficient battery charge. Please make sure your fingers do not cover the camera lens when you are filming. One option is to place your recording device on a holder or flat surface so the camera is steady and not moving around as much.

 

 

Please record your video in full screen mode (no widescreen please). If using a smartphone to record your content, please make sure that you turn your phone sideways before starting your recording. Turning the phone sideways (the example I’m thinking of is with an iPhone) will make sure your video is recorded in full screen mode (and will not have widescreen bars on the sides of it).

 

Participants: If you are recording a video with more people in it than just you, please make sure others who are participating in the video are aware of what it will be used for, are ok with the purpose of this video being created, and follow the guidelines listed here.

 

 

Limiting Visual & Audio Distractions: If recording your video in a public setting (such as a park, a museum, etc.) please do your best to record the video in a quieter, less crowded space. In some situations, it may not be possible to have other people who are visiting this venue out of your shot. What we want is for you to find an area where your voice can still be heard clearly and where others who are visiting the same attraction do not take away from the main message and focus of your video. Please silence other devices like your phone during filming to limit any distractions. When filming your video and using your phone, please turn on airplay mode (or do not disturb) so that you won’t receive calls, texts, or other distracting notifications while filming. Please limit any possible distractions so you are focused and others who may be nearby don’t interrupt you from creating your great project.

 

Videos can be done in a variety of ways. If you prefer to create a visual picture slideshow that syncs up with the audio that you recorded, that works fine. The key is creating sensory stimulating content that has both pictures (moving or still) and words/music/etc.

 

Music usage and copywriting If you choose to use music in your video, please make sure it is your own original music. If you play music that is by a known artist, YouTube may not allow you to upload the content due to copywrite restrictions. You can sing or perform your own versions of music. If you use iMovie or other video editing programs, you can use the soundtracks available in the iMovie program, which are generic audio selections that could enhance your video.

Please note: we cannot guarantee that every video submission will be used.

 

Video Recording and Submission Process:

Make a plan for your video. Practice, as needed. When you are ready, record your video.

 

Review and edit your video. Film another take if needed. Make any changes or technical edits you need to make. Make sure the video flows nicely please. We aren’t expecting submissions to be Oscar worthy, but we do want these to be well thought out with care and consideration. One example of a program you can use for enhancing/editing if using an apple product is iMovie. There are several tutorials available online to help with the basics of editing on iMovie. Here is a good iMovie tutorial! There are also other simplistic movie editors on smartphones, and another on PC computers is called video editor. Again, you don’t have to be a professional to do this, these types of editing programs are pretty basic and easy to use.

 

Upload your video to YouTube (choose unlisted as your sharing option please. Unlisted means it will not post publicly online and only those who you share the link with directly will be able to view it). Submit your video link and your signed media release form to the Volunteer Coordinator by emailing Gabe at gpinkney@jssa.org

Click on “subtitles” on the left side of your screen and find the video you have uploaded. Underneath the languages column click on downward arrow, click on that and click on the language you want the subtitles to be in Click on “duplicate and edit” on the right side You will see the subtitles that YouTube generated from your video on the left side. Take a few minutes to proofread the subtitles to make sure they were written correctly and that there aren’t any spelling errors. Please correct the spelling errors as best you can. Please feel free to add some punctuation too because no punctuation is automatically generated. Start your video and make sure that the written captions match the exact areas when you are speaking. Once done with your editing, click the blue link at the top of the page that says “assign timings” You can do some more edits if you would like, but YouTube auto captioning does a very nice job overall of doing captions accurately. When done editing, click on blue “publish” button

Video Categories, Topics and Ideas:

Here are some options for types of videos you can create.

PET TALKS: Kids can create and share short documentaries about their pets. Education is provided as information about the animal (breed, diet, exercise). For seniors this would engage their memory process to think about pets they had growing up (or have now), while providing educational and soothing material. (please make sure video is approximately 5 minutes long).

WALKING TOURS: Could be done by people of all ages, including high school and college students. Create walking tours featuring a town, local history, an art gallery, museum, and/or some type of attraction. Information about the history of the location or unique insight about what is being shown is key. If at a museum, selections from the display placards could be read. Assist CBSCC teachers by tutoring students the proper forms of the dance gestures or how to care for music instruments. Assist students with proper class attire. Use their theater and management skills in assisting with production tasks, such as operating sound and light equipment, setting up stage decorations and props, and preparing dancers for their scheduled performances according to program order Use their management skills in leading the students to their designated classes and assist with keeping the stage schedule. Use their organizational skills to help keep inventory of the costumes. Sort costumes to designated dances and return the costumes in a neatly fashion when costumes used is done Keep inventory of kitchen and bathroom supplies, and other building services needed. This allows the program to be organized and manageable and provide a safe clean learning environment for the students. Use their engineering and crafting skills to sew costumes, repair jewelry sets, assist with facility maintenance.

Assist CBSCC teachers by tutoring students the proper forms of the dance gestures or how to care for music instruments. Assist students with proper class attire. Use their theater and management skills in assisting with production tasks, such as operating sound and light equipment, setting up stage decorations and props, and preparing dancers for their scheduled performances according to program order Use their management skills in leading the students to their designated classes and assist with keeping the stage schedule. Use their organizational skills to help keep inventory of the costumes. Sort costumes to designated dances and return the costumes in a neatly fashion when costumes used is done Keep inventory of kitchen and bathroom supplies, and other building services needed. This allows the program to be organized and manageable and provide a safe clean learning environment for the students. Use their engineering and crafting skills to sew costumes, repair jewelry sets, assist with facility maintenance.

Programs will span from PSAT, SAT, ACT Prep, and one-on-one college coaching. Throughout the year, there will be parent engagement events and workshops on topics surrounding financial aid, FAFSA, community programs and more!   Students are excited to engage weekly with dedicated support on concepts to enhance their mastery and understanding of tools and techniques that follow them through their primary and secondary matriculation, along with post secondary choices. Our volunteers are instrumental in enhancing the self-esteem and confidence of our students while encouraging the independence and perseverance necessary to overcome any obstacle to succeed.   As a tutor you will:

Additionally, Scholars receive an increased network of support from the extended family that the program provides to them and to their young children. This support stays with Scholars until they earn their two or four-year degree.
