Who We Are

Founded in 1999, Project Access is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations whose mission to be the leading provider of vital on-site health, education and employment services to low-income families, children and seniors. Our goal is to help keep family members employed, children in school, and seniors active. The seniors and families served by Project Access are “low-income”–that is, with incomes at or below 60% of the area median; and a substantial number are “very low-income”–often with incomes below $15,000 per year. Project Access envisions that all residents of affordable housing communities have the opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency and maximize their full potential.

What Volunteers Do

Since 1999, Project Access has been operating resource centers on-site in affordable housing communities. At these centers, we provide access to tools, knowledge, and opportunities that empower residents of all ages to stabilize their households and pave their own paths to prosperity. Project Access addresses the critical challenges faced by “working-poor” individuals and families living in multi-family and senior affordable housing developments by bringing the services to where they live–in their “backyards,” which removes often-cited obstacles to services, such as lack of transportation, language barriers and the need for child care. Project Access Creates opportunities that empower disadvantaged and underserved individuals, families and seniors to achieve greater self-sufficiency, independence, and success.

Volunteers play a fundamental role in providing relevant and quality programs to the communities we serve. Volunteers assist the Service Coordinator with the daily operations and direct programming of the Family and Senior Resource Centers which benefit the residents of affordable housing. Volunteers will have the opportunity to define their role and respective responsibilities based on their particular skill set, site needs and learning objectives.
