Who We Are
SilverSat is a youth-led 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to igniting a passion for space engineering and science among Silver Spring area tweens and teens.
What Volunteers Do
SilverSat was founded in 2017 to serve students in Montgomery County Public Schools. We seek to help close the achievement gap by providing an affordable STEM enrichment and leadership development opportunity through a real-world engineering challenge - working with twenty students (evenly divided between girls and boys) to design and launch a CubeSat into Earth orbit through NASA’s CubeSat Launch Initiative. There are many student volunteer opportunities available through SilverSat. Students may assist younger students by leading workshops on specific technical challenges, providing background information on satellites, CubeSats, and radio communications.
