Who We Are

The Potomac Valley Section (PVS) of NCNW, Inc. was chartered on November 13,1997 with 108 Charter Members. Today, the section has over 200 dedicated members. The mission of PVS is to is to improve the quality of life for women, their families and their communities through the support of the national organization and cooperation with other community-based Sections in reaching out to women here in the United States, and abroad to nations in Africa and elsewhere, and by contributing to the peaceful solutions of problems and human welfare and rights. PVS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations and is based in Montgomery County, Maryland and meets at The People's Community Baptist Church of Silver Spring, Maryland.

What Volunteers Do

The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW) is a council of national African American women's organizations and community-based sections. Founded in 1935, the NCNW mission is to lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities. NCNW fulfills this purpose through research, advocacy, and national and community-based services and programs on issues of health, education, and economic empowerment in the United States and Africa. With its 39 national affiliates and more than 240 sections, NCNW is a 501(c)3 organization with an outreach to nearly four million women. For more information about NCNW, please contact us. The objective of the Potomac Valley Section, NCNW is to strive to be a body that is committed to answering our call and to go beyond ourselves to provide, in accordance with the National by-laws, educational, social cultural, spiritual, and charitable self-help projects.
