Who We Are

Mission: The Montgomery County Tennis Association, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer-based organization which is dedicated to the long-term growth and development of tennis and committed to providing healthful recreation available to all residents of Montgomery County. Founded in 1996 to promote tennis in our area, MCTA has grown to just under 6,000 league players and is now the largest USTA Community Tennis Association in Maryland. MCTA welcomes players of all ages and skill levels.

We have your tennis match in Montgomery County! After-School Tennis Clubs: Tennis instruction using the games-based approach as an after-school activity at select MCPS elementary or middle schools. Special Olympics: MCTA organizes adaptive tennis instruction for developmentally-challenged youth and young adults, in cooperation with Maryland Special Olympics. Junior Team Tennis: Organized team play for boys and girls aged 10-and-under through High School. Fall Mixed Doubles and USTA Winter Mixed Doubles Mixed gender teams using combined NTRP ratings (6.0, 7.0, 8.0, etc.). Fall Gender-based Combo Doubles Leagues and USTA Winter Gender-based Combo Doubles Same gender teams using combined NTRP ratings (6.5, 7.5, 8.5, etc.). Fall and Winter Ladies Day Doubles League Matches played indoors weekdays between 9:00am and 3:00pm on three courts. Flights by NTRP levels. USTA Winter Senior Leagues Separate gender leagues for Men and Women, Players must be 50 years of age or older to participate. Teams organized by straight NTRP levels (2.5, 3.0, 3.5, etc.). USTA Adult Leagues Separate gender leagues for Men and Women. Players must be 18 years of age or older to participate. Three doubles and two singles matches per team match. Flights by straight NTRP levels. USTA Super Senior (60 +) and Super Duper Senior Doubles Leagues Separate gender leagues for Men and Women, Super Seniors leagues for players 60 years of age or older. Super Duper Seniors leagues for players 70 years of age or older. Teams organized by straight NTRP levels (3.0, 3.5, etc.). Women’s Tri-Level League Women’s teams consisting of players with differing NTRP ratings. Team matches consist of one court of 4.5-rated doubles, one court of 4.0-rated doubles, and one court of 3.5-rated doubles. Adult Mixed Combo League Mixed gender teams using combined NTRP ratings on the half-point (6.5, 7.5, 8.5, etc.). Tournaments MCTA organizes 7 tennis tournaments annually: the MAS NTRP Championship, the Bruce Francis Memorial tournament and 5 Junior Tournaments for ages 12-18 year olds.

What Volunteers Do

General Activities for student volunteers: Assist MCTA Executive Director, tennis instructors and managers at various tennis events throughout Montgomery County - These events include but are not limited to: Junior Team Tennis (Ages 10-18 year olds) matches and tournaments, USTA Junior competitive tournaments L5-L7, Special Olympics practices and events, Young Professionals social events, USTA Adult Tournaments, and USTA League events and socials.  Volunteer activities include but are not limited to: interacting with adults and children in unique tennis activities and games, assisting tennis instructors with fun tennis challenges, assisting Tournament director with various tournament duties related to tennis, assisting Special Olympics Director with various event activities including ball management, ball feeding, positive reinforcement and support of participants, and explaining tennis programs and activities to promote and grow the game of tennis.
