Who We Are
The program at the Baltimore-Washington Academy of Irish Culture is taught by world class instructors and aims to bring the the highest level of tutelage to DC and Baltimore area students who wish to study, play, perform and compete in Irish traditional music. The BWAIC aims to bring a full cultural learning experience to students of all interests and backgrounds. While high level repertoire education is important, of equal importance are Irish language, old style dancing, tin whistle, song and history, and music theory. Our aim is to bring these courses to all young students at an equitable cost while also creating a gateway to growth opportunities from festivals to Fleadh competitions and beyond. Students should be exposed to rarer instruments and given opportunities to try these instruments and receive high quality instruction in order to preserve the music on all traditional instruments.
What Volunteers Do
BWAIC offers classes, workshops and performance opportunities to youth in the Baltimore-Washington area in traditional Irish music, dance and culture.
Student volunteers perform at nursing homes and recreation centers.
