

Who We Are
HIPS was formed in 1993 by community representatives in response to the recognized need for specialized services for youth engaging in sex for gain in Washington, D.C. We have since grown into a comprehensive program providing a variety of services, education and advocacy to sex workers, drug users and their communities
HIPS advances the health rights and dignity, of people and communities impacted by sex work and drug use by providing non-judgmental harm reduction services, advocacy, and community engagement led by those with lived experience.
What Volunteers Do
HIPS Center for Health and Achievement offers both mobile and fixed-site services, including syringe exchange, condom distribution, overdose prevention services and naloxone, behavioral health services, peer support groups, HIV and HCV testing and treatment, gender affirming care, housing navigation services, food, and a variety of other services. Our drop-in center services are available 5 days a week, and our outreach team is out 7 days per week, including at least one overnight shift per week.
