Who We Are
Minnie’s Island is located near the Maryland bank of the Potomac River about 100 yards off-shore from Lockhouse 8 on the C&O Canal. It is roughly eight acres of boulders, trees, plants, and wildlife. At one end of the island sits a 30-foot by 15-foot wooden cabin with a large deck. Minnie's Island Conservancy is dedicated to the preservation of the ecological, architectural, scientific, and humanist legacy of Minnie’s Island. The mission is to maintain and improve the grounds and Cabin for use by, but not limited to, supporting community members, members of select disadvantaged groups, local MD and DC under-funded educational schools & institutions, as well as the river-oriented scientific communities.
What Volunteers Do
Volunteers for Minnie's Island can help clear trails, help remove invasive species, assist visitors to the island, assist with trash removal from the island as well as help with any planting or renovation projects going on in the cabin or the island grounds. Volunteers can enjoy the natural environment around them.
