Lincoln Park Community Center and Isreal Park were established in 1970 and are the heart of the Lincoln Park community. At almost 50 years old, the facility has a rich history, where a deep sense of pride and love for the community is shown and expressed daily. Many programs and special events at the Lincoln Park Community Center and Isreal Park are designed to include everyone.
Goal of the Lincoln Park Community Center is to assist children in grades K-5 in maintaining or increasing their reading levels throughout the current school year. Any HS’er in need of SSL hours will benefit from the Lincoln Park Afterschool Reading Program, as well as the kids learning to increase their reading skills.
Volunteer will come at least 2 days per week throughout the school year help kids with their reading. The kids are not being read to, they are reading to the volunteer. Each kid pulled will read for at least 20 minutes with their volunteer. As the kids confidence and reading levels increase, volunteers will assist in helping them move on to the next reading level.
Volunteers will report to the Lincoln Park Community Center, where they will be placed in a quiet, monitored room with other volunteers. As the kids are pulled from the afterschool program they are brought to the room to read for 20 mins.
The 12,500 square feet facility has a fitness room, computer lab, game room, gymnasium, kitchen, multipurpose room, library and kitchen. Isreal Park has a gazebo, park, basketball and tennis courts, and baseball field.
