

Who We Are
The Walter Reed Society, Inc. (WRS) — a 501(c)3 organization —was originally established in 1996 to benefit Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) and its educational, treatment and research activities. Since 2011, WRS supports Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) and expanded in 2020 to include military facilities in the National Capital Region (NRC).
What Volunteers Do
WRS responds, engages and provides resources that sustain and move our mission forward. Whether its relief donations for COVID-19 ($40,000 total to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Ft. Belvoir Community Hospital); emergency assistance grants; or scholarships — we help support patients, family members and staff at WRNMMC and in the National Capital Region (NCR) in the spirit of Walter Reed, the man and his legacy of medical excellence and service. WRS focus: PATIENT CARE AND SUPPORT *Physical and occupational therapy equipment *Therapeutic support for inpatient children —pediatric mural and arts; stuffed animal program EDUCATION AND SCHOLARSHIPS *Funds for Health Information Management degrees for spouses of active duty, veterans, wounded warriors (their spouses and surviving spouses) RESOURCES AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE *Outpatient housing assistance for wounded, ill or injured service men during rehab care and recovery *Appliances for Fisher House to support families’ needs during their stay COLLLABORATIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS *American Red Cross at WRNMMC *Oakleaf Club of Greater Washington DC *Blue Star Families of the National Capital Region
